Pregnancy

Is this a normal amount of tired?

Hello!
I was EXHAUSTED in the 1st trimester, and I've been looking forward to a 2nd trimester rush of energy but it has not arrived.

I work M-F 9-5 in a desk job and have a 30 min commute each way. When I get home from work I make dinner for me and DH. He does the clearing up. For the rest of the night I can barely move from the sofa.

On weekends I go to a yoga class on a Sunday. Once over the weekend I try to do something social e.g. Lunch with a girlfriend. The rest of the weekend I'm so tired I can't really do anything else. Poor DH is having to do all the cleaning. I'm too tired to exercise - sometimes I try on a Saturday, last sat I went for a 2 mile walk and was so done in afterwards I could move the rest of the day and had to have a 2 hour nap!

My midwife has tested iron (haemoglobin and ferritin) which were normal. She is now testing thyroid function and I'm waiting on those results.

I've never been pg before so I don't know if this is entirely normal?

For all 3 pregnancies, until the 20 week mark I could have quite happily slept on a pub toilet floor, if it just meant I was lying down.

I don't want to say it's normal, as everyone is different, but it's not unusual.
Hopefully you'll pick up soon.

Yep normal. I used to get in from work at 4 and go to bed. DH would wake me up with dinner and I would have a shower and go back to bed until 7 in the morning.

Haha bear! Confession - twice I've slept on the toilet floor at work at lunch time. In my defence i picked the least used cubicle, and it is a very clean floor and is mopped twice a day! Thanks xx

@heirhelp did you sleep all that time? Or just lie in bed? Often I'm so tired but can't sleep so I just go lie in bed in the evening to get a change of scene from the sofa Blush

That's me!! 22 weeks now and I just want to sleep! All the time, everywhere. It's the norm for me these days to have a kip on Saturday/Sunday. We don't even go out anymore or cinema even because it's pointless for me- I just fall asleep!

The tiredness is shocking. I sleep for a good 9hours every night and wake up exhausted. Focusing in work is tough! I do think it has gotten slightly better than first trimester but not much. Listen to your body and rest.

Thanks both, it's good to know I'm not the only one.

Even exciting things like going to see friends or shopping for the baby I can hardly see far enough - no energy what so ever!

I'm 28 weeks and feeling/doing just the same as you. I also had awful first trimester and was waiting for the rush of energy in 2nd trimester as well - things got ever so slightly better but not by much. And I have been like a zombie and feeling very useless and pathetic. Even yoga tires me out! I went for a long-ish walk the other day (30-45 mins) and was in tears that evening I was so tired. I have had my 2nd bloods done this week but not entirely expecting it to show anaemia. Think perhaps it's just one of those things. I'm reassured to read others are feeling so tired too! Makes me feel less like a wuss! I didn't feel this tired with DS 5 years ago, so I've been quite frustrated. But I guess every pregnancy different!

I had my first baby in October 2016. I remember being insanely tired in the first trimester. I could barely get out of bed. I would go to work, then come home and get back in to bed and just sleep! Everyone said that everything morning sickness included would get better in the second trimester, however I still felt awful until I was well into 20+ weeks! I think it has a lot to do with something you just have to go with. I felt great until I was around 35 weeks and then I was back to being knackered and would go back down for a sleep in the afternoon again for a couple of hours!

i want to scream when I hear about the mythical '2nd trimester burst of energy'!!

I feel better than I did in the early days in terms of not feeling nauseous, but I am possibily even more tired. I described it to my colleague today as like my brain is mush and is trickling out my ear...I cannot focus and I am sleeping so much but it seems to make no difference.

We are growing another human so we're allowed to be tired I think but I still find it frustrating

Lol yolky about the brain mush and ear trickle!!

I just came home from work, threw dinner together, around cleaning kitchen and dealing with DS (5) various requests (snack/toilet assistance), then promptly went to bed as soon as DH arrived home. Which is where I am now and I doubt I shall move until tomorrow morning! X

I used to feel so tired I felt like someone had drugged me

I was asleep. If you can't sleep then just rest. In all honesty I found the first trimester more tiring then my DD was a new born.

EXHAUSTED CONSTANTLY! I could cry some days as i just want to lay down. 18 weeks and it's dragging. Luckily my DS3 is really well behaved and plays by himself. Life is a daily struggle not to close my eyes! I get a daily short buzz from my one flat white a day, then back to sleep living!x

Heirhelp I was about to ask those that have children already, is pregnancy tiredness different from newborn tiredness?
I don't like it when you're so tired you can't function.

Report
Heirhelp · 22/03/2017 21:56

You function on a different level, as in as long as baby is feed and has a clean nappy and you eventually get washed by the end of the day then all is well. You definitely fiction and the beginning opposed to live and although people said this to me I did not follow it as well as I should, there is no rush to be up and about. Lots of culture would have you at home bo ding with baby and doing no house work for a very good reason. Hormones kick in when you have a new born and some how you survive the tiredness.

I'm only 6 weeks today and I am tired beyond words. I'm sat here on lunch at work and I just want to curl up and sleep!! It's horrible! And I've completely gone off coffee so can't even get a small caffeine buzz!
