Im so worried about things, esp ectopic pregnancy, that im considering a early scan. Im only four weeks so nothing will show atm. I dont think i wait another 4 as commonly suggested. Would there be much to see at 6+3 ish? Anything to rule out ectopic!

Why are you worried? Have u been diagnosed high risk? I went to A&E a few weeks ago as i had some bleeding and its one of the symptoms, i had also had some pain, they referred me for a scan as i am high risk of ectopic as i was diagnosed with fertility issues when i was younger but when i had the scan i was only measuring 4-5 wks so they didn't see anything only a pregnancy sack, i had worked out that i should be around 6wks but they said theres a two week window depending on conception so i'm having another scan this Monday, but today I've been getting period like cramps all day but I've read this can be normal

6 weeks from conception? I think you will see the sac and can rule out ectopic in any case at 6 weeks in most cases.

I had a dildo-cam scan at 5+4. Saw a bean and a flickering heart beat Smile

I had an internal scan at 6 + 1 due to previous ectopic. Couldn't see heartbeat yet (since seen in later scans) but they could tell all was measuring as expected and that it wasn't ectopic. Think around 6 weeks is the norm for a heartbeat being visible on a scan.

I had an early scan I thought I was 6 but they thought 5 weeks. Saw a fetal pole and sac from what I remember. It had to be an internal examination. I bled loads after but pregnancy was fine. Wish I had just waited for my 12 week scan. I didn't lose baby but was petrified that I had.

I'm five weeks and at high risk of ectopic due to my coil still being in place Confused

I had a scan today and it was too early to confirm, they won't scan again for another 10 days minimum.

Thanks. I'm not a high risk, I don't think but getting a lot of pain in my right side and I had pink discharge. But I think it would be too early for them to tell?

What has your doctor said about the pain on the right side? Or EPU? Definitely something to get checked immediately.

I haven't had it checked. I'd hate to waste their time if it's too early to tell

Pain and discharge needs reporting to your midwife imo. .

Pain on one side needs to be checked without any delay.

GP or EPU...

Don't mean to worry you! Localised pain (on one side) in early pregnancy should be checked asap.

Report
Lemondrop09 · 22/03/2017 11:00

Call your GP first. Our EPU won't see anyone unless referred by the GP.

They can confirm location of a pregnancy in the uterus by 5 weeks. (My DD2's sac was tiny but on screen at 4+2).
They cant see heartbeat reliably until after 6 weeks, so if you are worried about MC you are better off waiting until at least then (and preferably 9 weeks so that the majority of early miscarriages will already have happened). If you are worried about ectopic, don't wait to 6+ weeks.
You need to either find an EPAU to which you can walk in (in London this is easy but be prepared for a long wait) or get your GP to refer you by explaining about the pain and bleeding (both of which are almost certainly normal by the way - I've had pain from the corpus luteum in my normal pregnancies but no pain at all from my ectopics, both of which were dealt with before 7 weeks).

What's EPU

It's Early Pregnancy unit but you'd be sent away at 4 weeks. At most they might do blood tests but I don't know whether they'd even do that simply because you are concerned.

I'm high risk (multiple miscarriages and ectopic) and the EPU didn't see me until I was nearly 6 weeks and my GP wouldn't refer me. She offered me a blood test followed by another blood test a week later. I eventually got a scan showing baby was in the right place but went on to miscarry at 11 weeks

Early Pregnancy Unit - they'll see patients up until around 16-18w.

I had bleeding at 4w and saw a doctor in A&E but it was too early to see anything. I also had located pain. At 6w I had another bleed and pain, and had an internal scan (dildo-cam Grin) and that's when I first saw my little boy who is six months old now and sleeping on me Smile

Fingers crossed all is well - it's very common to get pain in early pregnancy, although it's obviously alarming.

Also, I had no pain with my ectopic oddly.

Report
OnNaturesCourse · 22/03/2017 11:11

So will they see anything at 4+1? Or will I wait? The pain comes and goes and I've not had heavy bleeding just a discharge a few days ago

Its really not unusual at this point to have achey pains like period type pains, mine were one sided, baby is just getting comfy and secure in there. Try not to let your mind overthink (easier said than done) but ectopics generally tend to have quite high levels of pain (im sure there will be exceptions to this on here) xx

Lemondrop09 · 22/03/2017 11:18

Are you 4+1 from your last period? As in, if you weren't pregnant now, you'd be due your next period? I had a solid week of cramps around week 4, some being on one side and also a tugging behind my belly button. It settled down by week 5. Also a small amount of pale pink discharge a week or so ago could be implantation bleeding.

I still think you should talk to your GP, but what you're describing could also be normal, so don't panic.

Yeah I was due a few days ago. My cycle mucked up n I ovulated early so this was a shorter one. I'll get, checked but seems pointless if they can't see anything.

My ectopic spectacularly ruptured at 7 weeks but I had not had any pain or other symptoms prior to the rupture. The next pregnancy I was scanned at 6 weeks to rule out another ectopic, it was a bit close time wise I thought but GP said they wouldn't do it sooner. However policy may vary in different EPUs and I didn't have any pain.
