Anaemia

Has anyone successfully conquered anaemia in the third trimester with a careful diet alone? I didn't think to ask the Dr when she phoned on Friday but I don't really want to take these horrid pills and think they might have just chucked the minimal effort/cover all solution at me when I'm perfectly capable of and willing to up my intake.

I'm 33+3 and hadn't noticed any symptoms so it can't be that bad. Will ask mw next week but in the meantime don't want to bung myself up!

No :-(. I've been on the medication for 5 weeks and still have it. I'm being tested again on Wednesday. Saying that I haven't had any constipation since being on the medication so it doesn't happen to everyone!

Ive been taking spatone and eating more red meat/seeds/green veg and have noticed a big difference in my energy levels and my restless legs have got a lot better. Not going to get tested again before labour (am 38 weeks) but def feeling the positive effects of changing my diet/spatone as opposed to iron tablets which Im not keen on

Spatone! That's one to google.. interestingly I had a steak last night and have felt quite cheerful and energetic today. But maybe it's psychosomatic. I wonder if anaemia can give you depression 🤔

Another recommendation for Spatone, my iron was at the low end of normal but they didn't prescribe iron even though I felt like crap. So I bought spatone myself and feel so much better for it. Wish I had taken it from day one. It's easier to absorb than the tablets so you shouldn't get constipated. You can get it from Amazon and boots 3 for 2 a lot cheaper than the chemist.

I couldn't cope with the pills either. I had really bad cramps etc. They did swap mine for some medicine and that's been really good.I think they give it to children but it has improved my anaemia with no side effects. ;)

I did some reading today about just how many eggs I would need to be eating Confused

Spatone it is then!

Can you tell me how you are changing your diet?

Has anyone tried floradix?

I'm very very anaemic it's horrid.

SchnitzelVonCrumb

I took floradix after I lost 3 litres of blood along side my iron tablets x 3 a day.
It definitely helped me, as even when I stopped my iron tablets I continued to take it and my iron levels hand remained pretty good with this subsequent pregnancy.

I didn't take the tablets but did make a huge effort at the end of my pregnancy (or was told I needed a magic number to be allowed my home birth) and improved my levels.

I ate pumpkin seeds sprinkled on everything, snacked on dried apricots and had spatone with orange juice. My lunch was a bowl of just add water couscous with spinach leaves, seeds chopped apricots daily for a few weeks.

I cut down on tea and didn't drink it with food at all.

It worked and symptoms I had put down to being heavily pregnant (breathless after stairs/tiredness ) disappeared.

Really depends what your iron levels actually are... OTC medications for iron are usually low in actual iron content

I agree that it really depends on how anaemic you are. I'm dutifully talking my tablets because After my last birth I lost 2 litres of blood so there's a risk of it happening again so I want my HB to be a decent level just in case. I am always anaemic though and only tablets really help me.
