weight Loss? should I worry?

Hi there,
I am currently 16+3 and have started to notice how thin my legs and face have become. Before pregnancy I was 10st 3lbs and as I am 5ft 11 I always looked skinny as it was. Anyway, as I was worried about how thin I look I weighed myself this morning and was shocked to see that I weigh 9st 5lbs. I have lost nearly a stone in weight since being pregnant. I do eat as often as I can but still get bouts of nausea and fimd that my appetite isn't what it used to be. My worry is that baby may not be developing as a result of this? I am not showing at all not even a slight bit of podge. I have an early gender scan later today and am terrified that they will day baby hasn't developed. Or is not measuring the gestation I think I am. Has anyone else experienced this? I have tried looking for answers on the internet but it seems weight loss in pregnancy is only really heard of in over weight women.

I lost a lot of weight in the first 20 weeks of my first pregnancy. I ended up only gaining 6lbs in total, i wasn't overweight beforehand. My mum was the same. The midwife said not to worry, that baby will literally suck the life out of you to get what it needs.

Well lots of women dont gain anything in the first trimester so i guess some weight loss due to reduced appetite isn't unusual. But you're now into your second trimester when weight gain is normally pretty rapid. And you've lost quite a lot, nearly a stone which is about 10% of your prepregnancy weight isn't it? That's fairly common in hyperemesis gravidarum but it doesn't sound like you have that, or do you? If it's unexplained weight loss of that much I'd probably be speaking to my GP and midwife about it and having blood tests for thyroid function etc.

Yes!!! I can totally sympathise with you, I had the same problem of finding help on the internet about weight loss?

I am 5ft 10 and I suffered HG and ended up losing about 1 and a half stone by 13weeks (second pregnancy) although the exact same thing happened in my first pregnancy (HG was actually worse with him) and he developed perfectly fine, born 8lbs 1oz! So try not to worry yourself too much!

This time round though the consultant is sending my for "growth" scans every 2 weeks from 28 weeks? Maybe they will say the same for you? It will depend on whether or not your weight and height class your current bmi as "underweight"?

If you're worried about it I would definitely express your concerns to your midwife!

With my first baby, I only just gained back everything I lost by the end of the pregnancy!!!xx

Wow! Baby seems to be develop8ng well but I just worry and cant seem to understand how that amount of weight loss is not harming the baby? But apparently not. I am going to speak to my midwife about it still. I was on the edge of being underweight at my 12 week scan so it all depends if ive lost more or whatever. I dont weigh myself regularly so im not sure when i went up or down. Thank you for your comments! Such a relief!
