Poll: How many of your antenatal appointments did your SO attend?

My partner and I were just discussing what other couples might experience when it comes to antenatal appointments.

How many of yours did your partner go to? All? More than half?

If they didn't attend them all, why?

This includes any pregnancy related appointments, even if it's not with your midwife.

Just the scans, the other appointments are pretty short (except the booking appointment) and nothing really exciting happens in them. If the pregnancy wasn't straightforward and we had to be referred for further testing or whatever then he probably would have wanted to come to those additional appointments too - and I would have wanted him there

I am 38 weeks
My OH came to both scans and one midwife appointment.
He hasn't been to any other midwife appointment becuase they are on a Thursday and he works that day (over 50 miles away)

I suppose it's relevant that DH has a long commute and the antenatal appointments were very close to my place of work so the disruption to his working day would have been a lot greater

Just the scans, he had to take annual leave for them.

I know my friends only had their partners at scans too.

Both scans, booking in and I think one other appointment because we'd both booked the day off. The rest I went to on my own- they are quite short.

My husband just came to the scans on both my pregnancies. He couldn't take time off work to come to all the midwife appointments.

With my first dc dp came to every appointment.
With the second and third he came to the scans.
With this one he's been to 2 scans (I've had lots)

He came to the 2 scans, didnt see much point in him coming to the rest. He didnt enjoy the scans really - he felt like a bit of a nuisance.

Just the scans for us. There was no need for him to take time off work for all the midwife ones - better to save leave for when the baby arrives!

With my first he didn't come to anything until I was 37 weeks. He was living nearly 200 miles away and when I was eventually able to move to where he was he attended the first appointment I had with new midwife and that's it.
With this one he's been to the scans and will be there for any home appointments, like my 36 week appointment on Friday. It's at home as I'm having a home birth.
Any out of home appointments and I'll be getting him to look after the toddler instead.

Just the scans and any appointments with specialists and consultants in the last, most complicated pregnancy
Didn't feel the need for him to take the day of work to have my blood pressure checked and my wee swabbed every couple of weeks - do people really take their partner to ever single midwife appointment?!

Scans and a consultant appt which I asked for support. Didn't want him at the others as they were just routine blood pressure / urine samples. Might have been different had I wanted to discuss anything significant like in the consultant appt.

Scans only. Plus mtg with consultant about induction

Just the scans, and the amniocentesis. As others have said I'm not sure there was a need for him to be there at the other appointments. I can't recall seeing couples in the waiting room for my midwife appointments either, just women on their own.

Most - but he worked next door to the clinic in a very make-your-own-hours type of job, so it was easy. Otherwise I'd have wanted him there for scans and any actual health problems, and not been fussed about routine appointments.

He's been to all the scans, most of my midwife appointments, all consultant appointments and when I've had to attend mau. He co-owns the business though, and can work from home with planning. Has to be a up side to the stupid long hours he puts in!

Only the scans and the hospital visits - one appointment and one procedure. The routine MW appointments were mundane: Wee, BP, fundal height and heartbeat when far enough along. Not worth a partner attending those.

Finally someone has started a thread about this! I was saying to my friend how strange it is that a colleague from our work went to literally every midwife appointment going (normal, straightforward pregnancy) we were wondering if it was us being strange not wanting someone to tag along so we could wee in a pot and have our blood pressure checked!

ExP came to scans, booking app and one of my stretch and sweeps (only because my car was having a service and I didn't want to drive his Grin)

23 weeks into First pregnancy and DH hasn't been to any midwife appointments.
He has attended all nhs scans, I've had 4 so far and he will attend 5th one on Thursday (being monitored for short cervix)
I can't see the point in him taking time off work for midwife appointments as they are so short but I do always feel like maybe he should as I've seen midwife makes a note if he attended or not?!

Only the scans. And the birth.

All of them but I am quite anxious about pregnancy

Only 1 scan (the first), and one consultant appointment, at the very end (when I couldn't decide between caesarean/natural...I was going private).

OrlandoTheCat · 06/03/2017 23:11

But not the birth!!! (he went and had a full English breakfast at Garfunkels)
