Hey, everyone. So, I'm at the Six Months Mark and very soon me and my boyfriend will be entering shopping mode and buying everything we need for our pending arrival. We're not stressed or worried about having left it so late because well.. I guess we didn't wanna jinx it.

We're putting together a list of things we will need to buy for our son and I thought it would be fun to see what everyone would recommend.

Suggest as much or as little as you like!

need?

Nappies, way of cleaning baby, place for baby to sleep, way to transport baby, some clothes, way of feeding baby.

They're the essentials

Late is not having it by time baby is born!

We may have gone overboard, but this is what we have (35 weeks, delivering at 38).
Somewhere for baby to sleep- next 2 me in our bedroom (can't fit full size cot in) and moses basket for living room.
car seat
Pram with carrycot
stretchy sling (had one anyhow as I was a nanny)
Up to 1 month vests and sleepsuits (~15 of each, most second hand)
0-3 month vests and sleepsuits (~5 but will get more as needed)
2 gro snugs for night time
baby hats
Baby towels (we don't have spares, and these were kindly given to us- you don't need special ones)
blankets - mainly cellular
changing bag and travel mat (not necessary but I wanted one)
Muslins - 3 large and 5 regular
shed load of nappies and wipes, though going to try cloth
we also bought the first milk starter kit incase I struggle with breastfeeding.

You haven't left it late - indeed you are still rather early.

What the baby needs falls into a few main categories:

a) feeding
If you are intending to bf, you need maternity bras, breast pads, nipple cream and a support helpline phone number. You might want to add a pump, storage system, bottles+teats, and sterilising kit, but you won't necessarily need them straight away. If ff, then bottles+teats, sterilising kit and supply of formula.

Muslins (for mopping up)

b) excreting

Nappies, wipes
Don't forget maternity pads for you!
A gentle baby wash and/or shampoo
Sudocrem

b) transport
Car seat. Sling (very useful for a newborn)
wheeled conveyance (can be left until later)

c) sleep
Moses basket or cot, sleeping bag or sheets/blankets

d) clothes
Vests, sleep suits, the old fashioned nighties that are sometimes called bundlers these days are brilliant for newborns and a bit less fiddly (plus tights for both sexes), a snowsuit for going out and about. Don't get too many as it's quite likely you'll be given lots.

e) other
Newborns don't really play with toys, but a playmat might be nice.
Baby monitor
Thermometers (if you want to check, they're not actually necessary) for bath and bedroom
