Did anyone have a fairly unkicky baby?

I'm 26 weeks tomorrow, big bump measuring 3+ weeks ahead with an already heavy baby boy. 4th pregnancy. I remember my others kicking hard ( they were all big babies) and getting me in the bladder/liver/anywhere else they could reach. It's been 5 years though and I'm not sure if I'm just remembering wrong, if this one is just quieter or if my general tubbiness is blocking the blows! He still flutters rather than kicks or punches and doesn't wriggle much. I just was expecting to feel more since he's measuring a bit bigger. Anyone else relate?

It can depend on which way the baby prefers to kick.

You might have an anterior placenta.

I did and didn't feel kicks until 24 weeks.

Do you know where your placenta is? If it's at the front (anterior) it can mask movements a bit. I had that for my first, and this pregnancy (my second) has way more movement and it was noticeable a lot earlier.

Could also be how baby's lying.

My baby was quiet and didn't kick much. It used to really worry me but everything was fine and he is a very placid 9 month old now.

It is definitely worth getting checked if you need reassurance though. Flowers as I remember the anxiety well.

I'll double check my notes. No one's mentioned exactly where it is, just that all was ok. I tend to only feel movements to either side though and I'am a little on the heavy side so I can't feel any lumps or bumps to give me a clue where he is.

One of my DC wasn't very kicky, just a bit wriggly/fluttery.

I was paranoid, as my previous baby had been a proper kicker, even though I had an anterior placenta - it was like being punched and head butted from the inside Shock.

I ended up going to hospital several time to be checked out as I was worried about the lack of movement. All was OK, though, although she came early!

one I'm at the hospital for my GD test on Monday so I'll mention it to my consultant and see what they say. Everything so far has been textbook with no issues and he is moving daily, just not as much or as forcefully as I'd like!

YawningHippo Here is a link to Kicks Count and information on Anterior Placenta and what that means for baby's movements if that is where your placenta is. If you are at all concerned about baby's movements then please do speak to your midwife and/or the antenatal/maternity triage unit.

Dial that's exactly what this is like. All my others were real kickers and kept me up at night etc. This one, just seems very chilled, his movements just feel very slow motion compared to the others. As they say every baby is different!

I didn't really get much movement until 28/29 weeks. Up until then it was more just flutters with the very occasional (1 per week) actual kick. I put it down to having a bit of a fat belly to start with (this is my first so nothing to compare it to).

I'm now 37 weeks and he kicks the life out of me all day! I've even got bruises!!

xx

Im 31 weeks in 2 days and have an anterior placenta and have been in a good few times in the last few weeks for movement (im actually on the monitor now and hes fine haha). They say everytime that the baby have just curled up behind the placenta, however i felt movement at 21 weeks and have seen/felt limbs sticking out of my stomach since about 24 weeks ish so i highly doubt its the placenta, im 100% sure its just that i have a lazy baby! My cousin did have placenta previa and has now got a high lying placenta, and she's 26 weeks -there abouts - with her third girl and isnt feeling much. Everyones different i think, you might be like me and have a really lazy baby haha x

harley, if this baby is like his dad, then he will be fairly sloth like in movement when he's on the outside too!

DD was a very quiet baby, we were at the hospital at least once a week in my last trimester for monitoring because there were days when I could hardly feel her move at all. I got to a week before my due date and this horrible bitch of a consultant came to see me and said "I think the real problem is you're not paying attention to baby's movements, her heartbeat is fine so she's obviously fine" She decided to do an ultrasound. We were in there for an hour, she had me drinking ice water every 10 mins, walking, squatting and wiggling my hips to encourage her to move, but she only moved once the entire time. Heartbeat was strong, no obvious abnormalities so she decided to induce me the next day. DD was born a healthy 7lb 3, and from day one was the most chilled out, placid baby there has ever been and slept like a dream. Even now at 10, she's still relaxed about most things.

Obviously still pay attention to your movements and any thing out of character, go and ask to be monitored for an hour. But if the hosp are satisfied all is fine I wouldn't worry too much. If you're measuring quite big, maybe he just hasn't got as much room to move!

My daughter was never a kicker more just slow movements and the odd elbow. I remember she faced my back from very early on and I put it down to that. Very energetic now though!

mango that's what I wondered! He was weighing 13 oz at my 20 week scan, average is 10 I was told. So I guess he will eventually just have no room if he keeps going at the rate he is currently! I'm not worried exactly as he is moving, just found it so strange that all mine so far were so active and this one seems to just want to chill out all day. Grin

My first wasn't really a kicker, I could feel him moving but it was never really uncomfortable let alone painful, and it didn't keep me up at night.
He was on the small side (just over 6lb at 41weeks), but no health problems.

Yeah me - we had a few trips to the MAU. I mistakenly thought that this meant I had a lovely chilled out baby who didn't have much energy to burn. I was wrong!

I blame my sons dad and my dad for how lazy i think my son is too haha

Ds didn't really move much (now at 19 months he doesn't stop), which I found strange because dd could kick for England.

Just checked my notes from 20 week scan and my placenta is high anterior.

Hi OP, I have a high anterior placenta and notice less movement than others describe. And sometimes it becomes completely muffled which brings with it its own anxiety!!! When I have scans she's clearly a very. Yay baby, I just can't feel it! I suppose at least we're less likely to get kicked awake! Grin

Both DS and DD weren't particularly kicky. They were both breech though.

mrs glad it's not just me!!

I've had quite a lot of extra input in this pregnancy due to my history and so far everything's looked normal. I still just can't help being convinced something's wrong. I'm not worried as such because I know my scans have been normal, but having less movements has made me more nervous. Especially as my pregnancy ( and scans) with my ds1 were normal and he was born with certain complications. At least I know now the placenta position is masking movements!
