Those who are currently/recently taken Ranitidine (for heartburn/indigestion)

I've finally got my hands on some after my heartburn & indigestion has gotten unbearable.

It's 300mg and says to take before bed. But I need some relief this moment.
Those who recommended I take it I'm sure said they took it a few times a day?
Did you take it at night?
Did you take it more than once but yours was a different mg?
Can I expect magical things?

I haven't been given ranititine in pregnancy, but took it a lot when I wasn't pregnant (loved wine but it gave me terrible heartburn!) you can definitely expect magical things, it's amazing stuff!!

Thank you smile I really hope so as it's been horrible up to now.

Did you get any side effects?

It is fantastic stuff. However, my doctor explained it as preventative, my understanding is it reduces the acid production in your stomach, so I was advised to take it morning and night. I could really tell if I missed a dose. It won't give any instant relief like Rennies or the other chalky antacids as they work by neutralising the acid that's already come up out your stomach.

I did one pregnancy without it and could barely eat towards the end. It made my second pregnancy so much better.

I have ranitidine. Mine are 150mg and I can take up to two a day, one morning and one at night. I find they actually work pretty quickly so I take mine at about 9pm and I'm usually ok overnight, unless I've eaten something spicy or whatever. I would prefer to take two separate pills at different times so the 300mg would annoy me.

They are a godsend though, I was miserable before.

I take one in the morning and one at night. My heartburn can still be horrific though. I often vomit acid during the night sad

I would much prefer to take two a day rather than one high dose.
Wonder if I chop the pill in half?

I often puke bile/acid into my mouth too. It's so horrible, I hope it goes once I've given birth!!

I hope it goes once I've given birth!!

I was on 150mg Ranitidine twice daily (it is magic!) and supplementing with orange Rennies (which taste like Refreshers sweeties) for the whole of the third trimester. As soon as Baby was here, I no longer needed any of it smile

Good to hear!

Currently wide awake due to the pain of it. So the ranitidine hasn't kicked in yet. I don't have any gaviscon left either boohoo.

Yes I can also vouch for the amazing, instant relief when baby arrives! Imagine how squashed your stomach must be to he pushing the acid up, then suddenly lots of space!

Hope the ranitidine works soon. I would add I noticed it was less effective if I didn't take it very regularly. As in exactly 12 hours apart for the 2 doses. Set an alarm.

I had the same in my last pregnancy and can confirm that it disappeared literally as soon as I gave birth, I'm hoping for the same this time!

Oh good, I can't wait til its over. The ranitidine hasn't made any difference yet :-(

I took it in my second pregnancy as I vomited so much in the latter stages of my first pregnancy with acid indigestion. I used to take one in the morning and one in the afternoon. It empties the stomach of acid so you might need a few does to get it working properly.

It is also what the hospital will give you to take the night and morning before a planned c section to make sure the stomach is empty so it really does work.

Music were you prescribed it or did you just start taking it? I had terrible acid indigestion with my first pregnancy and towards the end was gagging almost every time I ate something. All the doctor would give me was gaviscon which I was swigging from the bottle as and when I needed it!

I've discovered ranitidine/zantac since then and would love to take some this time round but I'm wary without having spoken to gp first..the stuff I usually buy is on 75mg though, so a much lower dose that you're being offered..?

musicinthe00ssucks Thu 02-Mar-17 13:29:22

My consultant prescribed it to me. I was under the care of a consultant for second pg because of problems in first pg. I'm sure your GP will be understanding if you explain. Good luck
