Pregnancy

6 weeks today and small amount of brown bleeding

After my MMC in 2013 I get really, really anxious about things. I know there's nothing I can do but wait and hope that there's nothing else until my midwife booking in appointment (our EPU isn't self-referral). I just want to know if things are ok or not. I hate this limbo situation.

If you're anxious call the GP- my local EPU isn't self-refer either, but I found a small amount of brown bleeding last week when I was 6+5. I called the GP surgery and explained to the receptionist, I had a call back from a GP within 30 mins and he booked an appointment for me with my local EPU the next morning. Had a scan, saw little bean and heartbeat so know everything is ok. I think from what my midwife said if it's brown and there's no accompanying pain then most likely things are ok but you should always let the GP know. Fingers crossed you can get the same reassurance DoctorDonna 😊** (loving the username btw!) x

DoctorDonna sorry you've had some brown blood, I would second what mummabubs said, call your GP and they will refer you to EPU if you've had some bleeding. I've done this twice, and they're usually pretty quick. It shouldn't matter that you haven't had your booking in yet.

What they may do, is make you wait until you're 7/8 weeks as everything is so tiny and I know it varies from area to area.

I would say though that brown blood is a good sign, it means old blood. It could be a bit of implantation left over which has only just come out and it could have been up there for ages. I have had brown, pink and most recently red bleeding in this pregnancy (am 11+2 today) and have had 3 scans, one at EPU and 2 private because we were so worried. All have shown a healthy baby and flickering heartbeat.

The odds are definitely in your favour, good luck to you.

Agree with everyone else. Here you can just go and wait at the EPU. I went at around 7 wks with bleeding and was given an internal scan the next day. Turned out it was some scar tissue on my cervix which had started bleeding so nothing to worry about.

I had this (and in our area we can self refer to the EPU). Mine ended well with a heartbeat too (and she's now almost six months old and in the jumparoo!) As others have said, brown bleeding is a better sign than bright red "fresh" blood. Good luck.

Will try and call GP tomorrow - midwife was very dismissive really (which was odd as last midwife was happy to insist doctor referred me for an early scan just because I was anxious). She didn't even ask dates or my name.

Definitely try your GP and let us know how you get on..I called the midwives at hospital yesterday when I had my bleed, in tears on the phone and she said no one could do anything on a Sunday, try the out of hours GP who would refer me to EPU for Monday earlist..."try not to worry" she said, as if you can't worry when you're pregnant and bleeding!
