Pregnancy

Anaemic?

I'm 26+4. Past few days I have been feeling awful; exhausted, dizzy, no energy or appetite. Decided to take my BP 90/42, 80/50. Dipped my wee, nothing. Tongue and mouth are sore, especially if I eat something "tangy". Previous to this I have been walking a few miles a day, doing Baby's room... actually felt the best I've done all pregnancy! Today I've barely had the energy to do anything & now I'm wide awake from sleeping all day.

Pottered to my GP yesterday who were a little confused, but asked me to come back for bloods in the morning.

Despite being a nurse, I'm totally clueless. Does this sound like anaemia or am I just run down?

Sorry, I'm a first time Mum and I've had miscarriages in the past. This baby boy has a heart condition that they have picked up on ultrasounds and I'm just worrying myself silly. Normally I'm so level headed.

I'm sorry I can't really advise but if you are going back for bloods at the GP then surely you are in good hands and will have an answer soon? I'd take it easy and get some rest. Make sure you take your multi vitamin and try to eat very healthy. Maybe make or buy a fresh veggie juice if you are able to.

Hi OP, sorry you are feeling so run down and anxious about things. Sending lots of love and hugs. I'm also pregnant with my first (32 weeks), been exhausted since I can remember and have just been diognosed with anemia.

The only real way to be sure is to look at your haemoglobin in your blood when they do their test (ask them to specifically look at this as my low level was initially missed) Mine was low-ish at 23 weeks and they put me on iron (200mg a day) which unfortunately didn't help and I've become full blown anemic so they've tripled the dose to 600mg. Can't tell you what a difference it's made to my energy levels!! Still got the normal pregnancy tiredness but it's much improved from before.

Best of luck for your bloods and I hope you start feeling better soon!

If they test you and your anemic, they'll give you iron and it'll get better (sorry if i sound patronizing, you probably already know that being a nurse but ive just been told i have anemia so i thought i'd give my say haha). However, the only symptoms i had was lack of energy, bad headaches and tiredness but they went on for the whole pregnancy until i was tested at 28 weeks, it didnt just come on. Is it possible you could be coming down with something, maybe the beginning of a cold or a bug? I know every pregnancy is different so anemia symptoms may just happen suddenly for some but maybe the start of a bug of something x

Those BP readings are really low, what has been said about those? Low BP might make you feel faint/dizzy

I mentioned to the GP (I am their nurse in the practise!) that I think they are too low, but she said they were fine. TBH I think they are too low too! I'm not dehydrated either...

Thank you for your kind words! I am exhausted today. Husband and I went to town and half way through I couldn't manage anymore, and he had to get the car. Went to bed at 2 and slept since. The exhaustion is overwhelming, I use to work 13hr night shifts and it's nothing compared to this!!!

Harleysmammy

I've had bad headaches for the past 4 weeks, similar to what I had as a young teenager. My midwife has said this is normal, but it's not normal for me... does that make sense?

My midwife said that headaches were normal too but they werent for me, before getting pregnant i cant actually remember the last time i had a headache. I got heavy heads if id been lying awkward but not headaches, so i knew they werent normal for me and i was told i have anemia 2 weeks ago. Mind you they do say headaches can be normal, both my sisters and my sister in law had headaches like me and they didnt have pre eclampsia, anemia or any problems it was just pregnancy related. It could just he that this is normal for pregnant you, x

Arbrighton I am, sorry. Still getting use to Mums net. Spoke to GP on Friday as I know they are low, but she is happy with it. I'm hoping I am anaemic in a way as I am exhausted and I can't get ANYTHING done!

I go through spells of being hungry and exhausted, think its baby growth spurts. But it does sound like it could be more in your case. Have you asked your midwife?
