Propess induction tomorrow

Hello
I'm due to get induced tomorrow using the propess pessary, just wondered if anyone's had any experiences from thus? Good or bad.

I'm 39+5 tomorrow already had 2 stretch and sweeps & 2cm dilated.
Getting induced due to health reasons, nothing major though, my first labour was natural and only 5 hours with no pain relief... Just putting all this for abit of background.

Looking forward to hearing from you all xx

I was induced as was 40 +14 - nothing worked to get labour started.
I was given a pessary first then ARM - was monitored very closely and given drip to speed up contractions, labour didn't progress well and DS didn't respond well to massive contractions brought on by drip.
In hindsight i wish I'd had an epidural , which was recommended by the midwife but I had wanted a "natural" labour so declined it. The contractions were so strong, there was no build up and I found it hard to cope. Ended up having a GA and an emergency section, I would have been awake for the birth if I'd had the epidural.
After reading lots of info afterwards I now realise there can be a high proportion of intervention (forceps, surgery etc) with an induced delivery, hence why epidural is recommended.
Hopefully as you've had one natural delivery that was quite speedy you will just need the pessary as a "kick start" to get things moving.
Good luck for tomorrow.

I was induced early as my daughter stopped growing at 37 weeks. I had a sweep and a pessary at the same time at about 8am, nothing happened until the evening but once it started it was very fast! I ended up going into shock it was so quick!

You sound like you are making good progress yourself hopefully propess will give you a good boost to really get going. The idea is they leave it in for 24 hours before examining you again unless things change such as very strong contractions, waters breaking etc. It's fine and you don't even notice it's there. Good luck hope all goes well for you!!

Oh wow thanks ladies! Definitely gave me more info, don't get me wrong I've googled over and over again but it's always nice to speak to people who have been through it ☺️

Salsamad I've heard that a lot about epidurals even the midwife said to me when she was booking me in she highly advises them, plus with my son I had to be taken to surgery after to remove my placenta stubborn thing therefore got numbed after I'd given birth anyway, so I am leaning towards that this time.... It's kind of gutting when you do it all 'pain free' then someone comes and numbs you after all your hard work haha!

Iamapixiebutnotaniceone - oh bless you sounds like it all happened very quickly, ice heard loads of people go into shock, seems like it either drags out over like 3 days or it makes people go BOOM straight into full blown labour all at once.

Emma2803 - yeah fingers crossed, I've been up nearly every hour of the night up now with tightenings in my belly so I'm hoping they're making me progress with dilation etc and il be more than 2cm when I get there so they can break my waters pretty quickly, I really want them to examine me before 9pm, as if I don't get to 4cm by 9pm they send my other half home and I have to progress on my own until they see fit for him to come back and we get moved to deliver baby, I just am petrified at the thought of being in hospital alone to labour...

Thank you ladies so much! Il keep you all updated throughout the day if your free!

Good luck today!
I was induced with Propess at 38 weeks with my DD. Id had a stretch and sweep and cervix favourable but no dilation.
Pessary at 12 noon, cramping by 4pm. Went for walks around the hospital till DH went home. Restless and uncomfortable night, cramping increasing, waters went on their own at 5am. Cramping instantly ramped up and became very very strong, they gave me pethidine but I threw up everywhere. Had and bath and an exam and was 2cm dilated. They took me to delivery ward where I finally had gas and air then a wonderful lovely brilliant epidural Grin and then I slept! Slept on and off, didn't feel a thing, but didn't progress as fast as they'd hoped. At 9pm that evening midwife said I was only 7cm and if I didn't fully dilate by midnight they'd do an emergency section as DD was getting tired and her heart rate slowing on contraction. Checked athe midnight, was fully dilated and in 6 pushes she was out.
Even though it was a long and drawn out process it was positive for me.
Good luck!

Good luck! I was induced with just the pessary at about 4.30pm on a Wednesday, period type pains woke me in the early hours of Thursday morning and and by 7pm was in delivery. Was all reasonably successful!
Hope all goes well x

I was induced with DS 7 weeks ago. Had the pessary put in at 12.30pm on the Friday, woke up with mild period pains at 4.30am Saturday morning. Waters went at 7:15 was 4cm by this point and baby arrived at 7:45 on NYE. I only just made it to the labour ward. Got in the room laid on bed and 3 pushes later he was here. In my experience it was really wonderful and easy . With DD it was 40 hours from start to finish it was horrendous (natural labour) so I would definitely rate induction. By the way before the pessary was put in I was already 1cm.

Good luck :-)

I had a propels induction and it was fine. I was 1cm beforehand. Inserted about 4pm. Period pains straight away. Mild contractions all night constantly. They then took it out at 8.30am and was 2cm and said it would probably slow down. It didn't. It went super fast from there. Had DS at 4.30 in the afternoon after forceps and just with gas and air. I'd have had an epidural no question but it caught everyone out I think. They thought id be there for hours. So despite forceps and limited pain relief the induction was fine. As you are already 2cm it sounds like you are favourable so hopefully it will work for you too

I was induced with my second, they told my husband to go home as it was going to be a long wait before anything happened and it was past visiting times....they had to call him to come back within an hour!! DS was then born about 4 hours later. I cant comment for everyone but I felt being induced was more painful than going into labour naturally. I begged for an epidural but by the time the Dr. was free he said it was too late and baby would be here soon. It was all worth it when I saw DS :)
Good luck OP.

Anxiousandpregnant you've literally just hit the nail on the head for me, I've got to call back at 3pm to get a time.... That's if there's any beds free.
However I'm petrified that I need to dilate to 4cm by 9pm this evening otherwise other half gets sent home Shock I'm so worried about being there alone and in pain xxx

It was the same for me, my waters broke and it was 24 hours later by the time they had a bed free for me to induce me. Hope they have one for you soon! I'm sure even if your husband does have to leave it wont be long before he has to come back :)

I wouldn't plan on being 4cm by 9pm. When I was induced I went in at 10am and it was a whole 2 and half hours before they even put the pessary in. They will do checks first then check your details and deal with other women in between everything

I was induced at 40+11 with the pessary two weeks ago. Pessary went in at 4pm (2cm dilated), started contracting almost straight away nothing too bad tho, waters broke on their own at 6.20pm (3cm) in the hospital Costa cafe and he was born at 8.10pm after a rush up to delivery suite only time for g&a, jumped from 3 to 10cm really quickly. It's my 5th baby, the contractions were definitely more intense with the induction but it was over and done with quickly lol

Chrystal1982 WOW!! That's a labour story I like to hear! I got the pessary put in at 7:50pm and so far notbing, just some mild cramping and back pains but I've been having these for days, Midwife said she could have broke my waters.... Wish she did! Wink then I might have progressed a little more, but for now I guess it's just a waiting game X
