Inner thigh pain and swelling?

Hi,
Sorry if this is too much information but I'm 39 weeks pregnant and this evening I've had a really sore inner thigh at the top on the right side. It's swollen in a line, almost enough to look like a swollen vein and there's bruising.
The other thigh is absolutely fine and google isn't giving me any answers. My thigh is constantly hurting and it's unbearable to touch. Tried a long bath and it hasn't eased it at all.
Any ideas what it could be/the cause/how to help? I'm at my wits end

Possibly just varicose veins? Sorry I'm in a panic!

Is it red, hot to touch?

If it's that painful I would get it checked out, have you phoned NHS direct for advice?

Could be your pelvic muscles - they all connect, like a nest basically. Google 'pelvic muscles inner thigh' - some of the muscles in your thigh are innervated by the pelvic muscles. You could also have pulled something. But agree with pp - get checked for dvt and clots because that is critical and needs to be ruled out now type thing.

Pregnancy seems to through up symptoms that can be serious or'one of those pregnancy things' so I always think rule out the trickier stuff asap so you can relax.

Am very worried about DVT, never heard of it before but all the symptoms match. Thanks for reminding me about NHS 111, will phone them now.

They will most likely ask you to go to hospital (from experience 111 play it safe and rightly so) so don't panic if that is the case. Let us know how you are if possible. Will be thinking of you.

You need to go in now and get checked. You are describing signs of a possible DVT, which are also more common in pregnancy.

Please ring labour ward and speak to the triage midwife or go to A&E.

111 advice was that they're getting a doctor to call me within 2 hours. I phoned the labour ward and they said to keep an eye on it for tonight and see the GP in the morning, unless swelling starts to occur in my leg, in which case to go straight to A&E. It's going to be a long night

Have you had any pain in your calf over the past few weeks? I ask because I was diagnosed some years back with a massive dvt in my groin and had had calf pain which felt muscular a few weeks prior.
im not trying to worry you but if you have had calf paini wouldn't mess about and would go to a and e

No calf pain thankfully, lots of thigh pain but nothing below the knee.

OP I'm going to tell you my thoughts, please feel free to ignore them but I won't be able to sleep if I don't. FWIW I'm a healthcare professional with 6 years training and another 6 years experience. If you presented to me as 39 weeks pregnant with unrelenting severe pain in your inner thigh accompanied by swelling and bruising I would be sending you straight to A&E to rule out a blood clot.

You certainly wouldn't be wasting anyone's time by going.

I hope that's helpful and not just alarmist.

Definitely helpful, I'd rather know as much as possible. I'm waiting for my mother in law to come round to keep an eye on my 5yo and then I'm going to go in.
Better to be safe than sorry.

I've actually got out of bed to check my medical textbooks to see if I'm going mad. I've been through all the possible differential diagnoses I can think of for groin/thigh pain and I can't think of anything else that fits the combination of symptoms you've got. I will be so very happy to be proved wrong though, and if so I am very sorry for disrupting your sleep x

ps I'd be hoping for them to do an ultrasound, and possibly bloods.

I'm 40+2, and I and half my BCT group have had this kind of pain, several of us just on the right side, and it's been nothing to worry about at all, just a pelvic niggle. Hopefully getting checked will show the same for you, and you may already be on your way home again but I just wanted to let you know that it can easily be nothing to worry about at all.

Venus yup, proper sweary, hop around pain. It's been checked and is apparently just another of the treats late pregnancy has in store, and others in my NCT group have had it too. Oddly a majority of us just on the right - think it's the prevalent side for sleeping on.

There's loads of things that can cause thigh/groin pain. Hopefully this is one of them. There's just a lot less things that cause swelling and bruising along the line of a blood vessel along with it and you're higher risk when pregnant for clotting generally. Just to put my reasoning out there for anyone else searching this in the future. Anyway, hope you're OK OP. Good luck both of you with your births :)

DVT is my worst fear, I hope your ok OP, hopefully its something minor and nothing to worry about.
