Unexpected pregnancy...

Hi

So I'm in a bit of a shocked state at the moment. I did a pregnancy digital test and it came back positive at 3+ weeks

I'm stunned, confused, scared, excited all at once. Me and my partner started trying for my first child over 12 years ago and nothing, I've never used contraceptives since but gave up on anything many years ago. I did consider IVF but decided against it, there was always a reason to wait longer due to work/family etc. Infertility was unexplained although some small cysts on ovaries, doctor said it would make it more difficult but should not prevent it

I only did the test because I had a hospital minor procedure due on Friday and the letter said it cant proceed if you are pregnant, then I realised I was 10 days late. I still thought nothing of it picked up a test as was at the shops, forgot about it when I got home and remembered at tea time. I was looking at Facebook waiting for it to tell me not pregnant so when the nurse asked Friday they wouldn't make me pee in a cup....

So now I'm completely shocked, the timing is absolutely rubbish given some personal issues but still, I want to be excited! I'd completely given up on ever having children, my partner has a 15 year old and we have a great relationship and that was enough so I was happy.....but this has completely thrown me

Sorry for the rambling post, my partner is also in shock so not much for conversation right now and I don't want to tell my family yet as I'm convinced something is going to go wrong....

flowers it must have been quite a surprise OP. Just let it sink in.

Lissette Wed 08-Feb-17 23:37:50

I remember feeling shocked and we'd been trying for a while!

Astro55 Wed 08-Feb-17 23:43:32

How wonderful!

It's a shock to anyone - you have 100 thoughts racing round your head!

Give yourself sometime to adjust.

I hope it turns out well for you

I always used to imagine when I was younger the romantic ways I'd tell my partner I was pregnant

I never imagined walking into the living room shaking and on the verge of tears unable to talk, and then passing him the stick I'd just had a wee on as one of them!! :P

CONGRATULATIONS flowersflowers

I believe in fate, and this is 100% why xxx

Well DH was invited the phone to his mom and he ran upstairs to tell me DSIL was pregnant - I replied me too! He ran back downstairs to ring his mum

He then ran back up to see if I was joking!!

No romance!!

KoolKoala07 Wed 08-Feb-17 23:53:22

Wonderful news!

Lissette Wed 08-Feb-17 23:58:45

No romance here either! I shouted 'Im pregnant!!!'' to dh from another room and then ran like a headless chicken from one room to another. I got a kiss and a hug from dh who then sat down in a daze and he announced ' I'm going to have to get promoted'.

Congrats OP!

bummymummy77 Thu 09-Feb-17 00:25:27

Haha. Congrats. When I found out I was pregnant I was the same, shaking, shrieking, sobbing.

Whyarealltheusernamestaken Thu 09-Feb-17 01:49:22

Well I couldn't sleep so got up and did another test, convinced myself it was wrong (bought a two pack as it was cheaper and I like bargains.....thought maybe it would come in handy for next hospital appointment)

Also positive but now says 2-3 weeks. I'm hoping that's just normal due to hormone levels at different times in the day. Anyone get different results using clear blue digital?

Working off the NHS guidelines which go on first day of last period I'm 5 1/2 weeks now

Will talk to gp tomorrow though, hopefully it'll reassure me

Thanks for the unromantic announcement stories, keep them coming, making me feel less guilty for mine!!! Thank you all for listening smile

MommaGee Thu 09-Feb-17 01:53:27

Congrats op. I pees on a stick with similar expectations when I needed to tale some meds to induce my period early before flying away on an intense working holiday. At midnight o went tp the supermarket and bought two more to be sure!!

Never did go on the trip and for ages felt guilt that my reaction to a long awaited (not as long as you) pregnancy was shock and panic. lying here listening to him snore as he has a poorly cough and couldn't love him more xx

MommaGee Thu 09-Feb-17 01:55:02

Also the look on my face when I walked in the bedroom...
I'd been having some bleeding with bowel movements and it was worrying me sp close to the trip...
DP thought something horrible had happened with my poo!

Whyarealltheusernamestaken Thu 09-Feb-17 02:06:41

Haha Momma, that made me smile. It took me about 30 seconds of sitting next to him on the couch unable to talk and shaking and him asking me what was wrong before I shoved the stick at him with no warning...god knows what he thought had happened...

How far along are you now?

MommaGee Thu 09-Feb-17 02:17:13

He's 20 months old x

Snowflakes1122 Thu 09-Feb-17 02:19:36

Congratulations flowers

Don't worry about the Weeks Indicactor. I got a 2-3 weeks at 8 weeks with my second.

Also with this baby it went from 2-3 weeks to 1-2 weeks.

Depends on if it's first morning urine and how concentrated it is etc. Definitely nothing to worry about.

smile

Whyarealltheusernamestaken Thu 09-Feb-17 02:39:59

Momma, glad it worked out well smile

Snowflakes, I'm confused as I work 3 weeks or 2-3 weeks as doc talk for 5 1/2 weeks pregnant working from my last period, but that was early (which I never am) and very light, 2 days, so could be 9 weeks. But if it now doesn't say 3+ does that mean a problem?. Will see what gp says tomorrow...I'm overthinking and still in shock!

MommaGee Thu 09-Feb-17 02:44:42

Oh I had dodgy reading too and I was 5 weeks but one said 2-3. Midwife insisted I was 13 (really irregular) so had a scan and was 6 weeks!

Whyarealltheusernamestaken Thu 09-Feb-17 02:51:01

Thanks Momma, that helps, I have one to talk to about this stuff, I lost my mum at a young age and my sister doesn't have kids. I'd given up on it to so now I'm presuming the worst!

MommaGee Thu 09-Feb-17 02:56:55

Get in with your midwife and tell her you think you're about 9 weeks, they'll do their own calculations anyway and will book first scan based on that then adjust date based on the scan! That scan should be about 12 weeks and then it'll be 20 weeks.

Dodgy pee sticks doesn't mean a problem, bit its normal to be feeling this fraught under the circs

How has DP taken the stick you peed on being shoved at him news?

Whyarealltheusernamestaken Thu 09-Feb-17 03:07:09

Momma it's complicated, dp doesn't do emotion much normally

We wanted a child 12 years ago but nothing happened. Since then his teen daughter has gone through a lot of drama, plus his 19 year old niece now lives with us also....so lots of girl hormones

He did the practical thing, finances etc, what if work slows down (self employed), to god I hope it's a boy....he doesn't show emotion much ever but he did tell me he's going to nag me to eat healthy so I take that as a good sign...

He's not the emotion his sleeve type, will take a while to know clearly exactly how he feels, I could do with him speeding this up though lol

MommaGee Thu 09-Feb-17 03:27:10

Aww its a huge shock and I think until you're showing and baby is kicking its all a bit surreal. Def male him come tp the scans - it becomes real then

Atenco Thu 09-Feb-17 03:34:20

Congratulations, Why.

There somehow never is "a good time to get pregnant" but here in Mexico we say that babies come with their own sandwich under the arm. In fact I think my dd came with a wardrobe under her arm actually.

TestingTestingWonTooFree Thu 09-Feb-17 06:25:39

Congratulations! Dates not matching is not necessarily a problem. Have you already booked a GP appointment? In some areas you go straight to midwife, although given that you have other health issues, GP probably not a bad idea.

vfoster Thu 09-Feb-17 07:26:46

Congratulations! I had a shock positive after not really trying too. I did a test because I was sure I wasn't and had a bit of a panic in the bathroom! I shouted my husband by saying, 'eeerrrr, can you come and look at this?' From the bathroom 😂 Not sure what he was expecting!
We were in shock for a day or two and now we're 17 weeks! 😃
