Hi,
I'm 6 weeks pregnant and this is my first pregnancy so it's all completely new to me. On Sunday evening I started light spotting, with some brown discharge which I've heard can be normal around 6 weeks, however Monday morning I woke up having (what It seems like) my period. I am bleeding heavily, cramping and have clots (Sorry if too much info). I've woken up this morning and I'm still bleeding. I'm super worried this could be a miscarriage. Having searched the internet, some women have had period like symptoms for a week and still kept the baby. Has anyone else experienced this??? I have a scan Thursday at my EPU and I'm so nervous for any bad news. Thanks xx

Hi littlebean. I have experienced similar in one of my pregancies, and I'm sorry to say that heavy fresh blood with clots and cramping at 6 weeks do sound like the symptoms of a miscarriage to me. You'll be able to find out for sure on Thursday. It is possible that it's not - I really hope it isn't - but I hope it's not too harsh to say that you should probably prepare yourself to find that the pregnancy has come to an end. If that's the case, there is nothing you could have done to prevent it, be gentle with yourself. Flowers

Hi puddock, thanks for your reply. I agree with you and have sort of come to terms that this may be a miscarriage, but I don't want to believe it. Do you know what they might say at the scan? x

Not really - it is likely to be a transvaginal internal scan (with a probe and you don't have to have a full bladder). One thing that may happen if things look inconclusive is you may be asked to return in 1-2 weeks for another scan. There's some info here: www.miscarriageassociation.org.uk/information/ultrasound-scans/#earlyscan
Best of luck to you.

I do know people that had heavy bleeding in the first trimester and all was fine. Unfortunately when it happened to me it was a miscarriage. I did get some hope from the stories saying all was ok. Good luck, It's a horrible experience so take care of yourself

Thank you puddock for your advice, I shall check out that website now. Caterina99, sorry to hear that you also had a failed pregnancy, and like you, I too have hope after reading the stories of others. However, my partner and I are preparing for not such good news. Thanks again x
