What baby furniture do i need?

Do I really need baby furniture? Baby waredrobe? Chest of drawers with topper (for changing baby)? What have you bought? Thank you

No. you need something for them to sleep in. And if you're going to co sleep not even that!

So far we have bought no baby furniture! My mum is donating a chest of drawers for us to re-paint to match the nursery so we can keep baby's clothes but we aren't planning to get a wardrobe as well.
Planning on getting a changing table that doubles as storage for nappies and wipes too but that's it.
Have a Moses basket so won't be buying a cot for a few months until baby outgrows the basket!

You need something waist height to change the baby on. If your own bed is in the room you don't even need that, tbh as changing the baby on the bed is great. Otherwise you can always change them on the floor. But changing tables are defunct after a surprisingly short time so just buy a foam changing mat and put it on something.

You definitely don't need a wardrobe!

You need drawers for the 1000 little vests and 500 sleepsuit you will accumulate. But that's all.

You also don't need any kind of system for nappies etc. I used IKEA fabric boxes for all the changing crap and they were really handy as they were portable.

No you don't , I had a changing table first time round and it irritated me . If you buy baby wardrobe you will want to get a new one in a couple of years or so. We have bought a lovely massive chest of drawers from ikea and a crib ... changing mat on floor x

Theres no point. You will need something for the baby to sleep in and some drawers for clothes but thats. Most of the time you will be changing your babies nappy in the living room, I used to do it on the coffee table with a changing mat until he could roll.

We only recently got a chest of drawers. Wardrobe useless as there are too many clothes.
We bought the changing table for the cot which has been fab.
But buy as you need it. Then you know what works and what doesn't

You need somewhere for it to sleep. That's it! Ds is 18 months old and had a moses basket mostly unused and has a cotbed with drawer under. That's it.

If you don't have somewhere to put all the baby clothes then I'd buy a normal adult wardrobe or chest of drawers - they can grow into it! Other than that, grab a basic change mat and you can change them on a bed when they're teeny and on the floor when they start to be at risk of rolling.
Bed wise - up to you. A cot bed with removable sides will do them from newborn to 4/5 years old in some cases. You could even take a side off right away and have it wedged alongside your bed to co-sleep from word go. Don't think you really need a bassinet/Moses basket etc but plenty people like them.

No to wardrobe. I liked having the drawers with the changing top, the chance of rolling off was lessened due to the high sides and more than once it contained a liquid poop explosion / pee flood that otherwise would have dribbled down the sides of a flat topped chest towards the carpet. Also, I'm tall so changing nappies on the bed was uncomfortable for me.

Changing tables always seemed like madness to me. We had a changing mat downstairs and upstairs - they're easy to tuck away out of sight. Use on the floor/bed/table; where ever is convenient. And as soon as they're big enough to roll changing them on the floor is safest anyway so I can't see a changing table being worth it for 4 months!

Somewhere to put clothes is handy, but doesn't need to be baby furniture. A cot of some description is useful for most people. We had a Moses basket which could be moved about for naps, a cosleeeper crib and an Ikea chest of drawers second time round for clothes and supplies of muslins, flannels and so on.

Just get something to sleep in. We bought a changing table but it's never been used, it's so much easier to change DS on the floor. Also, when they're older and start rolling, you don't want to use the changing table anyway :)

Nothing. I have a show cot. It's looked pretty for two babies and counting.

We bought a cot, wardrobe and like a toy chest type thing for DS before he was born. The only thing we use really is the wardrobe, but we chose the design (ikea) that plenty of shelves and drawers. The cot is used to store all the soft toys he was bought and he sleeps on a camp bed next to it and the toy chest houses all of DPs work stuff! We also were going to build a drop down changing unit on the wall... we bought wipe clean fabric and everything. It never got built, we change DS on the floor or on the camp bed and the fabric has been pinned over his window like a curtain.

Actually, I would recommend buying black out blinds!

Oh I also had a crib for beside the bed and a Moses basket for downstairs.

I have a picture of DS in the crib so his granny could see him using it (she bought it) and he never used it again as we ended up cosleeping for 8 weeks until he went into his own room... on his camp bed and he never used the Moses basket. He slept on the sofa or in his pram.

We have a next to me crib that is good from
Birth until baby can pull himself up.
And an Ikea changing unit that also has drawers to keep his clothes and stuff in.
That is all you need.

We also got a couple of basket type things from TKMaxx because we needed extra storage.

Bouncy chairs are handy to put them in so you can make a cuppa and go to the loo but not a necessity.
We are in a 1 bed flat and the bouncy chair gets in the way TBH, we hardly used it.

Our nursery contains a cot bed, IKEA chest of drawers (hemnes that we already had) with changing mat on top, couple of those box type storage units (also IKEA!) for storing additional nappies, wipes etc and a rocking chair. So far it seems to be working out fine! I would say that a comfy chair of some sort is useful if you have the space.

I disagree a bit...

Sure, all you 'need' is a cot and somewhere to put a bunch of babygros...

But I really enjoy having a baby wardrobe, it's lovely seeing all DDs little things hanging on tiny hangers. And I really like having a chest of drawers with a changing mat, for much the same season.

We bought the Mamas and Papas Haxby set (cot + wardrobe + drawers) in the sale and are really happy with it.

DS is a month old. I have drawers for clothes, a bedside crib and a travel cot as a safe sleeping space downstairs and that's it. I don't like changing tables, I have known a few people who found out their babies could roll when they rolled off one... plus with a little boy when he pees everywhere I feel it is more contained at floor level!

I don't think he is missing out, he doesn't mind that he doesn't have a nursery let alone nursery furniture! I will be buying a cot soon as he will grow out of the bedside one in a few months.

I would recommend a nappy bin. A lot of people think they are a waste of money but they are a godsend for really evil nappies when it is too dark or miserable outside to put them in the wheelie bin.

Oh yes, nappy bin, definitely. We had one of the whizzy ones with the cassette of wrap in it, so you plop each newly stinky nappy in, twist it round, it's all sealed up and hidden away in the bin. A tiny bit more expensive but so worth it to me!

I'd definitely recommend an armchair / rocking chair. We've got a really comfy one. The cushions on it aren't washable and DC1 did throw up many a time on it, but they wiped down really well and still look new! It's a Tutti Bambini Reclinable Glider Chair.
