I'm suffering throughout the night and find sucking on a sugar free (to try save my teeth) polo whenever I wake up helps

Mine kicked in today - thought I was going to be lucky and avoid it this time. Mint chewable gaviscon is my go to - with a glass of water to get the bits that get stuck in my teeth (boak). Still makes me gag but does give relief

I have tried everything and the only thing that works is gaviscon advanced tablets.
I'm currently 34 weeks pregnant and reckon I've spent 40 quid so far on heartburn/indegestion

Gavisco and tums. And I have got a massive bottle of Gaviscon on prescription from my GP, as I literally need to down it from the bottle some days!

I got the Gaviscon advance from the gp in the week but its aniseed flavour, yuk! And I vomited not longer after taking it so not very keen on trying it again (could be unrelated though)

Have people found Gaviscon tablets or liquid more affective?

I had this sooo badly fro second trimester and had to get Omeprazol on repeat prescription from 20 weeks in as I started losing weight whilst struggling to eat. Think it was more GERD as it was so bad.

I posted the same thing a few weeks ago. Orange rennies worked for me for a bit too but I've ended up getting a prescription of omeprazole because it wouldn't ease. I've take 4 in total, about one week, because the effects of it seem to last a while. Gaviscon liquid in mint is good too but I just don't like the flavour or consistency.

I use the mint flavoured gaviscon. It has been amazing for my heartburn which I never used to get until I was pregnant

Gaviscon and love heart sweets worked for me!

Report
PickleSarnie · 05/02/2017 12:15

First time around, swigging gaviscon from the bottle helped.

Second time around Omeprazole was the only thing that helped. It was bloody awesome.

I'm getting peppermint peptac from docs. Its the only thing that works for me. Pharmacist told me that liquid gaviscon is ok to use when pregnant. Used that when forgot to ask for repeat.

mint liquid gavisvon seems to be doing the trick! although walking around swigging out the bottle is getting me some funny looks!

someone else told me to try love heart sweets so i'll have to give them a go :)

I have terrible heartburn, it makes me throw up. Gaviscon doesn't touch it at all and neither do rennies, but in both pregnancies ranitidine has been my saviour!

Oh and the first time everybody said I would have a hairy baby, when he was born he didn't have any hair at all and no eyelashes or anything! Now he's 18 months and still barely has fuzz. Will have to wait and see if this one is hairy!

Yy to orange rennies. Also a mug of cold milk or a yoghurt can sooth it too.

Report
mistermagpie · 05/02/2017 21:30

Both ranitidine and omeprazole are safe in pregnancy but you should get advice from the Dr before taking. I think they are to be avoided in early pregnancy though but I've only had heartburn after 30 weeks so I'm not sure.
