So, after sternly cleaning my hands I decided to check my cervix. I have had bad diarrhoea today once at 9pm tonight and this morning about 3 drops of clear liquid.ran out of me, anyway about 20 mins ago I decided to check my cervix as I have been taking slight not so sore cramps at the bottom my tummy and it feels soft and I had a scan two days ago and my baby is head down deep in pelvis and I am 34 weeks. Had my previous baby at 32 weeks via emerg C-section due to pre eclampsia and found out also this time round I have gestional diabetes, does anyone know what it means when cervix is soft and half a finger tip can fit in? Thanks x

Half a finger tip is half of 1cm dilated. But no matter how clean the hands, I would not go checking your cervix when you say you have had diarrhoea and when you suspect your waters are already leaning so membranes broken a little. In my view, that would be way too high an infection risk, and for no obvious benefit. Of course it is your body and you can do whatever you like but this just seems needlessly risky to me.

In any case, I understand the state of the cervix is not at all a good or reliable predictor of the onset of labour. You really can't tell anything from the info you have obtained. If you are worried about the cramping, then call your medical team and discuss with them.

You dilate towards end of pregnancy without being in labour. Given you concerns and past early arrival call your maternity assessment unit, they'll give you a thorough check.

I had a bleed at 31 weeks and when examined wad 1-2cm dilated. Nothing happened and when I went to be induced due to pre eclampsia at 36+5 I was 3-4cm dilated. If you have any worries get the MAU to check you out, please don't remind yourself.

I can fit nearly half my finger in cervix. I had a bath and washed myself after my toilet troubles and washed my hands throughly and dried them before checking cervix. I am now taking some lower belly cramps and little spouts of having them also in back, going to ring the hospital now and see what they say :)

You had a bath with suspected PROM? You should probably mention that too.

My midwife recently told me that after baby no. 1, a woman is always 1-2cm dilated during pregnancy. It sounds like your previous experiences have made you worried, hope it all goes well and baby stays put for another 4-8 weeks!
