Bleeding

I'm 11+5 with my first pregnancy and have just had a bleed. Not had any spotting or anything up to this point and went to the toilet 20 mins ago and was bleeding quite heavily bright red blood. It has slowed down a lot but is still there when I wipe. I've phoned the hospital and they wouldn't be able to scan me tonight and have just said to see how I go over next few hours and if I am soaking a pad every hour to go in and they will assess the bleed and if it was very heavy would keep me in overnight.

Has anybody had a bleed like this and not ended up having a miscarriage? I have no cramping or pain with it but have had bad trapped wind all day

Sorry to hear that Chelle. I did. I was abroad and had 2 bleeds and am currently 16+1. I was told it was a threatened miscarriage and I have never been given a reason for the bleeding. It is my first and was really scary. The first one was clots and the second one I soaked a pad in about 45 mins. I have my fingers crossed for you and I hope my story, though not guarenteed, gives you some hope that it isnt always the worse.

Thank you Hollyhop. That helps. I am trying to stay positive because it was a short bleed but it is pretty terrifying and the fact that I can't get scanned is the worst! Just have to hope it doesn't start up again

chelle i had this at 9 weeks. Trapped wind. forced it out 20mins later bright red blood. It stopped quite quickly and a scan a few days later showed everything was fine and they couldnt see a reason for the bleed.

If you are really worried just go to a&e, they will scan you there I would think. I went to a&e both times and each time I was scanned. The first time was about 330 in the morning. X

Thanks for the replies. Managed to get a scan this morning at EPU and all looks ok. Could see the heartbeat and all measuring correctly. Can't see any reason for the bleed. Such a relief but being a natural worrier not having an explanation for it I'm still feeling cautious. Have my dating scan booked in next week so at least I get to see bubbles again then

Thats great news chelle. Try not to worry. I know easier said than done but these things sometimes just happen and dont mean much.

Really good news about the scan, especially now you're nearly twelve weeks. I had bleeding on and off for the first twelve weeks with dc1 and had weekly scans and they never did find out what caused it but said it was coming from a different area to where he was.

I was really worried like you as I had had two miscarriages so of course assumed the worst. In the end it was fine but it's such a horrible feeling knowing that you can't control it.

Hold onto the fact that you've got that heartbeat and if it happens again go and get scanned again. Flowers for you.

For me when I had heavy bleeding it was caused by a subchorionic haematoma
Glad everything went well at your scan - wishing you all the best
