Hi, first time poster!
I'm just wondering if I should maybe be on some anti-sickness medicine or if it isn't a good idea?
I started being sick on Saturday and have been sick around 4 or more times a day since then. I'm sick every time I get out of bed and every time I eat. I think I'm starting to get a bit dehydrated and I haven't been to work this week as I keep throwing up.
Any advice?

If you think you're dehydrated and aren't really eating anything definitely go to the gp (or phone them) - I haven't been bad enough to need meds but I believe there are some very good safe ones out there now - definitely safer than being dehydrated or losing loads of weight.

(I presume you've tried all the usual things, eating a ginger biscuit before getting out of bed etc).

If you're struggling with ms then you need to go to your gp and ask for some medication. He should also take a wee sample and check your keytones but being sick 4 ish times a day shouldn't require the hospital or anything like that, he should check though. You'll be given cyclizine, it's good stuff but if it doesn't work for you dont be afraid to ask for something else. Good luck.

Thanks for your help. I'm going to phone the gp in the morning because I'm just not getting any better.

OP, as pp have said, do try to get some medication from your GP. There are lots of safe options to try. Also pop onto the hyperemesis support thread on here, run by the ever-lovely LucindaE. You don't have to have full-blown hyperemesis to benefit from the support and advice on the thread.

By the way, you can check your own ketones at home: ketostix are available from any pharmacy or online from Amazon. Usually a reading of 3+ requires IV rehydration in hospital.

Hi again,
So I went to the doctors yesterday, they have prescribed me some medication (prochlorperazine I think it's spelt!) which is supposed to help with the sickness although no improvement yet! The doctor's were very concerned about dehydration so I'm having to get my mum to drop in a sample for them to test for ketones this morning. There was talk of going to hospital to be put on an iv drip so I'm just preparing myself for that at the minute.
Any tips on that if I do have to go in? How long is the stay likely to be and what might I need to take?
Thanks for any further advice.

If you do get admitted for IV rehydration they normally want you to stay in until there are no more ketones present in your urine. How long that takes really depends on how badly dehydrated you are.
I've been in and out after a couple of bags of fluid (so home on the same day), to staying in for 2 nights and bags and bags of fluid. Make sure you take a few things in an overnight bag, just in case (don't forget your phone charger!).
