Gestational diabetes

Hi, I've just had the phone call to say I've got gestational diabetes, and I'm in bits. I can't stop crying. I feel like a total failure.

It was super close, my 2 hour result was fine but my fasting glucose was 5.7 and the cut off is 5.6. I feel like if I'd eaten differently yesterday maybe I would've scraped through.

I've got a 2 year old, and along with other complications, this means I've got 5 hospital appointments before the end of Jan. I'm really upset that the last couple of months we have 'just the two of us' is going to dominated by trips to the hospital.

Did anyone else feel like this?

There is no need to feel like a failure - you've done nothing wrong. I had GD with my now 4 week old and to be honest, apparent from me missing cake and chocolate for the pregnancy, it had very little impact.

The "two of you time" with your child can still exist. Hospital appointments won't take that away from you.
