Hi all! 😃

I am so confused with supplements. I feel so guilty as I cannot stomach fish and my midwife tells me it's a must to eat 3 portions a weeks I have tried and I just can't I hate it. So I thought get a supplement I got the above-omega 3 fish oil but then looking at the internet they say ones safe one isn't some day it's ok some not so I waited till last week to ask my midwife in person I showed her the bootleg and she said yes that's fine but didn't even look at the bottle or question anything, it was the end of the appointment and she was done basically, so I'm still non the wiser can someone please help me out here, I hate knowing I'm depriving my baby of these vital things but I'm trying to substitute without damaging the baby.
Thank you in advance 😘

I've been told fish oils are absolutely fine (in fact encouraged) as they are just the oil of fish. I take the high strength boots own which I find a good price and absolutely no smell or taste. I made the mistake of getting krill oil once - stay away! Opened the box and strong smell of rancid fish!

Hahah thanks for that 👍🏻 That's good to know. I brought some omega 3 fish oil from lidl and it's a big yellow capsule, I thought it'd be fine as it's something that's needed but there's always so many contradictions with supplements and pregnancy 🙈 Who encouraged you to take them was it a midwife or gp?

If you're worried Pregnacare do a pregnancy plus vitamin which has a normal pill plus an omega pill in the box. I'm taking those. They are specifically for pregnant women so will be safe 😊

Well I was already taking it and on my booking in appointment said that and she said that's good and to carry on.

I guess because it's the real thing and not a artificial version of something then it makes sense for it to be ok.

catlady has a good idea to take the pregnancare plus though my boots ones are just under £9 I think for 60 which is good for 2 months supply.

hi, fish oil is fine (and recommended). fish liver oil (such as cod liver oil) is not recommended, because it contains retinol, which can pose a risk for birth defects.
congratulations, btw! :)

Thank you everyone! Well I went into boots on weekend and spoke to the pharmacist. They didn't question it too much and just said yeah it's fine but when asking a ex nurse she said because this one has primrose oil init she wasn't sure wether that would cause a risk by possibly making the cerbix soft? So now I'm back to dipping square one!
I wish I'd just brough the pregnicare ones in the first place, only thing is ive already brought loads of folic acid and zinc and didn't want to waste them (and money) looks like I may just have to though. Such a mindfield 🙈

don't throw them away. you can still use them postpartum or while you're breastfeeding. they'll all be useful.
