Safe Decongestant during Pregnancy

Hey

My head currently feels like it's a giant ball of snot. It won't come out, it won't go in. I'm massively gross right now.

Anyone know any good over the counter medicines that are safe to use during pregnancy?

Thanks in advance

Best check at a pharmacy but I think only saline spay is safe.

AFAIK there aren't any safe decongestants that you can use during pregnancy. I resorted to putting my head over a bowl of steam every few hours. Menthol crystals are also amazing - they sell them in the homeopathic section of Boots. You only need one or two in hot water and they do clear really well but you'll need to check if they are allowed during pregnancy.

Thanks for the suggestions! I tried steaming and it did clear for a bit but was blocked again within 10 minutes :( Put a mint teabag in it for the menthol effect...made no difference haha! Worth a try!!

I had a horrible head cold a month or two ago and was told I could use Vicks vapour rub which helped a bit. I also found mental chewing gum and extra strong mints helped a bit. Also a really hot flannel on my forehead and I've my nose helped give me relief, it didn't last long each time, but was a nice break from my head being so bunged up!

I have had a never ending cold (10 weeks+) and discovered wasabi covered peas... Amazing snack that clears your sinuses in seconds Grin

Have you tried nasal irrigation? Boots do a pack - NeilMed Sinus Rinse. It is pretty gross (flushing all this gunk out your nose), but it cleared up my sinus infection in 3 days. I'm prone to sinus infections and it worked so well that it's now my go-to before going to the doctors for medication these days.

Speak to your pharmacist. Boots gave me an own branded decongestant, which specifically said it was safe during pregnancy. i just can't remember the name. That combined with Vicks helped a lot when I wasn't well.

I smothered my chest with Vicks and put a huge bowl of it (mixed with boiling water) on our coffee table. The house stank but it helped! Flowers

I used the Boots own one (sparingly) as it's the only one that doesn't contain pseudophedrine. I was really suffering and had to try something.

I based my decision on this:
