No. If you are wearing it when you go into labour, fair enough. But you will be very unlikely to put it on when it all kicks off!

I put on some mascara before I went into hospital. I had a water birth and it was quite steamy so I had mascara running down my face!

Nope. I showered and took mine off as soon as my contractions started. It was 10pm though anyway. It doesn't matter if you already have it on and can't be arsed taking it off but I definitely wouldn't bother putting any on for the big event. Labour is sweaty, painful and raw. You might well end up covered in streaky mascara. It'll be the furthest thing from your mind at the time!

No, with first child was in labour for 50 hours (contractions 2 mins apart or closer the whole time), child 2 born 45 mins after getting to hospital, had had a normal day at home with oldest child. Child 3 waters broke in night, no contractions, induced. Really wasn't a priority any of the times.

Yes with my second, because I had put some concealer and mascara on that morning. I wouldn't have done it especially for labour though!

I woke up thinking I had a bleed, so showered and put make up on to goto hospital. Ds was born 2 hours later. I'm pretty sure I screamed and sweated so much it came off though!

I did the second time after I had an eoidural and was pain free. I couldn't feel anything so I made myself up, did my hair and did a crossword. The other labours were nothing like that and make up WA the last thing on my mind.

I wouldn't imagine anyone would put on make up especially for labour if that's what you're asking?! I didn't as I went into labour during the night but I guess if I'd started labouring in the middle of the afternoon I might have a bit on. I had a 'no photos of me ' rule afterwards anyway...

Yes! Although I have had 3 sections. I had my hair and eyebrows done the week before. I had my nails painted and tan on (just a few days of dove) and my make up on. With dc2 I went into labour and made my dh help me put some make up on during contractions. bar my dh and dm I don't think anyone has really seen me without make up on.

not during contractions, in between contractions.

Mrs wow, you are lucky they let you keep it on. I went in for pre-op the other day and was told expressly no make up or fake tan so they can monitor pallor, and definitely can nails and toenails for checking oxygen sats.

Yes because ds was born on valentines day and we'd booked a restaurant for when dp got home from work. I made a special effort because I was feeling so huge. Nails , hair , full make up , nice jewellery.
Had a shockingly quick labour ( never made it to the restaurant ) and the first photos looked great with me all made up !
The next 6 months not so haha

Whatthe I'm a nurse in the hospital I gave birth in and my best friend was actually my anaesthetist! There really is no reason why you can't have makeup and tan on during a section. Also with pulse oxtrimerty most accepted research shows a minimal difference in painted and unpainted nails.

I had mascara on but had a section. Made no difference; I looked like a fat, sweaty mess as the temp was 33c outside and I was beyond out of it on meds. I hate pictures of me after having my son.

I kept my makeup on both times, and thanks to tubing mascara and relatively straightforward labours it was pretty much intact at the end. The delivery rooms in my local hospital were (very noisily!) air conditioned so wasn't very sweaty either time despite being in the summer.

My labour was induced so that morning I got ready as I normally would do so yes I wore my normal make up but after 17 hours I looked a state and it was the last thing on my mind all I wanted was my baby out and a nap lol

SockQueen · 14/12/2016 09:55

No, but then I don't wear make-up most days anyway. I can categorically say that nobody at the hospital will care!

Report
EdithWeston · 14/12/2016 10:12

No, because I don't generally wear make up.

And I don't think labour is an occasion you need to style yourself for Grin

No for DD1 as it all kicked off overnight. I did for DD2 as it all started a lunchtime and I'd put some on that morning. I was in the pool so it might not have lasted though although she was born 6hrs later so some might have stayed on.

I wouldn't put make up on for labour, just not worth it. The midwives and doctors are going to be more concerned with looking at other parts to make sure you're okay, rather than looking at your face.

YouMeanYouForgotCranberriesToo · 14/12/2016 10:21

Yes, I put full make up on in between contractions for number 2. Can't remember with dd1. I'm pretty sure that by the time dd2 was born all the make up had gone, but it made me feel better somehow to put it on.

I didnt however had asked for no pictures of me until I'd had a chance to brush my hair and put mascara on. In the end dp just took one with my hair all sweaty to my head and me looking like actual shit. Surprisingly its one of my favourite photos of me and Ds because I can instantly remember the euphoric feeling I had when it was taken.

Spottyladybird · 14/12/2016 10:26

No! Although as we left for hospital both times I've grabbed my make up bag, not sure why!
