Waiting Room Aggression

I had to get this off my chest, after an ugly threat at the hospital.

Today I went for my 12 week scan. I was very nervous but was with my husband for support in the waiting room.

The waiting room was packed with people. Directly behind me was a woman who must have been about 20 weeks pregnant.

She began to make comments about there being too many foreigners at the hospital (forgetting half of the staff were "foreigners") . She then started making fun of the names of people called.

I kept looking behind me at Reception waiting nervously for the Sonographers to call out names, unfortunately this meant I looked in the direction of this woman.

The woman behind me then started to make comments about me, I was too nervous to care. Only when we left after the appointment, my husband told me she said "if that woman keeps looking at me I am going to knock her out!" DH said he was ready to say something if she did say anything directly to me. This woman was with a partner who was equally as charming.

I was shocked and how rude and aggressive she was just because she perceived I may be looking towards her. Especially in a waiting room full of pregnant ladies from a pregnant woman.

Has anyone else had similar experiences? What did you do in these cases? Is it best to ignore?

It's got bugger all to do with pregnancy and a lot to do with her being a racist arsehole.

Hope your scan made up for the upset caused by her.

I would advise hospital staff if something similar ever happens again, there are NHS policies in place to protect staff and patients from racism. You could also report it to police who could then follow up on it - police may find a recording/ video footage helpful for prosecution purposes if you can bear to film it.

There was most likely cameras in the waiting room, definitely report it!

I work in A&E and get called a bitch or worse every shift. It is terrible but you just have to laugh it off. Being them is their crime and their punishment. Some people also act in the strangest ways when nervous though.

How horrible. I hope you're ok!! People like that, I'm really sad to say this, don't deserve the precious bundle they've been blessed with. The world needs less of that crap!!

I really hope your scan made up for it. X

Thanks for your replies. Just really upset me to witness this. My respect to staff who have to deal with such behaviour on a daily basis.
