Pregnancy

21 weeks and spotting 'old' blood - should I be worried?

Sorry if this is tmi but I need some advice please. This is my first pregnancy so I'm a bit nervous about everything.

I'm 21 weeks tomorrow and have just been to the loo and found some brown blood when I wiped. There was also some in the pan (like you'd expect when you're on your period). Should I be worried? It wasn't fresh blood so that's good, right?

Baby is moving fine, i have no pain and this is the first time I've experienced any bleeding so far through the whole pregnancy. Any advice?

I don't think you need to be panicked but it needs to be looked in to. Have yoy had your 20 week scan? What position was your placenta in ?

Yes had the scan a week ago today. They said I had a posterior placenta but that was all really. Thanks for replying so quickly!

I would give mau a call. I had this happen and they wanted me straight in and checked me over as some infections can cause bleeding

Don't panic but do get checked. I had a first trimester bleed and it thankfully turned out to be nothing, but you do need to get yourself checked out. Call your mw in the morning and arrange a check.

Maternity assessment unit.
The number should be in your notes

Exactly the same thing happened to me one week after the 20 week scan. I went to GP. As the ultrasound was fine she said wait a week and if there's no more blood forget about it. It was fine.

Sorry for all my cross-posting btw! I promise I am reading everyone's responses and not cherry picking who I respond to.

Just an update - mau said to monitor it and if the bleeding gets worse or painful to call back. Hopefully that'll be the end of it now though. Thanks again everyone for your help! Smile
