Pregnancy

9 weeks 1 day scan absolutely nothing

Short history. First round of IVF - 2 weeks after FET, success! Pregnancy hormone nice and high and all looking good. Cautious joy at thinking "yes! We cracked it".

Fast forward to yesterday for early scan (9 weeks, 1 day) Nothing... absolutely nothing seen. Not even a gestational sac or yolk. Have had tiredness, sore boobs and what I thought was a thickening around the waist but absolutely no spotting or bleeding or, morning sickness since the embryo went in.
Hospital did an internal scan and said they would have expected to clearly see the baby at 9 weeks. The hospital have told me the absence of any baby at a supposed gestation of 9 weeks is not good and told me to expect a bleed but to come back next week to double check things, if I still haven't started to miscarry.

Has anyone had a similar experience and gone on to hold their baby in their arms? I have quite a bit of scar tissue down there, due to urology surgery as a child and have a tilted posterior uterus. Is it possible that they just didn't get the angle of the 'wand' right. Could the baby be hiding or am I clutching at mad desperation???

Apologies for the long post. I have a 7 day wait to see the consultant again and just trying to gather a realistic picture of what could be going on.

The exact same thing happened to me. I'm so sorry, it's so horrible after the emotional journey to have this happen. Unfortunately I didn't have a happy story and I went on to miscarry at around 10 weeks.
However, my second round was successful and I have a wonderful one year and I recently found out I am expecting again naturally!
I suppose what I'm trying to say is it didnt have an impact on ivf working the next time or me managing to conceive. I hope your feeling ok xx

Sorry you are having a stressful time - did they do bloods and check your hormone levels?

I didn't have IVF but was under a fertility consultant - fell pregnant - had a scan around 9+4 in the EPU and was told nothing could be seen at all - not even a sac etc so they took blood and asked me to refund. In few days for repeat bloods to check hormone levels. Was due a follow up app with my fertility doc immedietly after the scan anyway so wandered round...he scanned me and found a 9+5 baby there....somehow the sonograoher hadn't seen...

I appreciate this is a very unlikely scenario for many people but it was my experience.

I would ask for blood tests to check hormone levels as a good indicator

My friend had this at 9 weeks where they couldn't find anything at all and she too has a tilted uterus!!! She gave birth to a beautiful little boy and he's 2 now

Thank you for your responses. They didn't do bloods. Something to do with my body still thinking it's pregnant, even if the missing baby isn't still growing. Ahhh, it's such a 'headf**k. It's just a waiting game until I go back for another scan on Friday. In the meantime, I'm checking my knickers compulsively to see if a bleed has begun.

Can you self refer to EPU for bloods? That would at least tell them if you're body is reacting properly and reducing hormone levels

I'd recommend getting referred or self referring to EPU. You really should have your hcg monitored to see if it's dropping. I had a similar thing happen with my first pregnancy (the horrid nurse doing my scan even asked me if I was sure I'd had a positive pregnancy test!) and they monitored my bloods and did repeat scans in the EPU, I don't want to scaremonger but this was partly to rule out ectopic and it was officially classed as a 'pregnancy of unknown location'.

Take care, I'm thinking of you (I've done 5 IVF and had 2 losses) x

The scan was done at an EPU...with a consultant, which makes me think he was very experienced and probably hasn't missed bubs. However, I have very messed up anatomy from previous pelvic surgery so I'm still clinging on to a shred of hope. Still no bleed but I think that's good... I think?

Just to update for anyone that offered me comfort and advice. We went for the second scan and still, nothing.

Been advised to stop all IVF drugs and sit and wait for nature to take its course. Was offered an ERPC under a general anaesthetic but have opted, for the time being, to try and see it through at home.

Thank you so, so much for all of your support x
