Should Umbilical PI increase or decrease?

Should Umbilical PI reduce towards the end of pregnancy?

I notice on my growth charts the centile-type lines go down but my baby's readings are increasing.

Anybody else experiencing this?

I'm being monitored for one of my twins umbilical PI being slightly too high and understand it should decrease the further along you are. It hasn't so far but it hasn't increased either, stayed more or less the same over a 3 week period. I'm 28 weeks now. Has anyone raised any concern about it?

Thank you for replying Never. I'm 31 weeks and having growth scans for a small baby. The growth has been almost static this past two weeks but the PI has gone up, I will have another scan in a fortnight. Nobody has so far shown much concern I'm just trying to make sense of it all really.

Your situation sounds so very much like mine apart from mine being twins, one twin is measuring on 3rd centile. They told me it could be a placenta problem which is why they are monitoring the PI. I can only think that your PI measurements are still in the normal range for them to have not brought it up as an issue. I'm also wondering if the PI starts to decrease at a later stage than 31 weeks. I think I would question it at your next growth scan lady just for your peace of mind. I'm sure they'd have mentioned it if there were concerns so try not to worry. Easier said than done I know! X

My baby is also on 3rd centile strangely enough Never!

I'm definitely going to mention it although I'm guessing that if her growth is still static at next scan they may want to plan something regardless of what the PI is doing.

How is your other twin doing? Is there a lot of difference between the two?

Also just for anyone who may read this in future PI was reducing on previous scans (have had them frequently) but the one time her growth is static the PI went up, so I'm guessing there is some correlation for sure.

How strange that they are both on the same centile! My twins are boy/girl twins and its the little boy who is small. Our little girl twin is smack bang in the middle for all measurements. We've got another growth scan on Tuesday, nearly 4 weeks ago at 24+4 girl weighed 1lb 10oz and he weighed 1lb 3.5oz so although not a huge difference he is still lagging behind. I've had weekly doppler scans to monitor the PI and it hasn't changed which I'm assuming is a good thing?!

In your case I think its definitely a good sign that they haven't raised any concern about her PI. They did tell me that its not something that will change overnight and that its a gradual thing.

If my twin boys did increase they may need to deliver both babies early for the health of baby boy.

My PI was high all the way through. It was explained to me as my body struggling to push enough blood through the placenta. The situation was monitored closely and became critical at 33 weeks so she was delivered as soon as an incubator was available. She was small but is now a healthy 2 year old.
