Morning all!
So yesterday was the day i got 2 BFP! Me and hubby are over the moon but i do smoke so would like to know the best way to quit? Can i use patches or gum or ecig? I have smoked for over 10 years about 20 a day.
Any advice would be much apreciated :)

Congratulations Flowers

I quit smoking the same day I got my bfp and that was nearly 7 years ago.

I went cold turkey and the thought of a life growing inside me was enough for me to not to smoke again.

If you want advice perhaps the pharmacist can advise you at your local chemist.

Good luck OP Flowers

Personally I found I just didn't want to smoke once I was pregnant. I couldn't imagine doing that to my baby. Every time I thought of having a cigarette I would just think 'baby' and the craving would pass. It only took a few days.
But if you can't do that, buy Allen carr's book today and start reading it. It will honestly make it so easy to stop.
You can also ask for an emergency GP appointment to discuss options today. I really would advise against waiting; the longer you continue to smoke the more normalised it will become for you.
Smoking during pregnancy is just not worth it. The risks of damaging your baby are very high, as well as the higher risk of cot death after it is born.

You can be referred to an NHS stop smoking program. It's probably a little early to speak to the midwife but maybe see/call your GP?

I just quit cold turkey but if this isn't for you then I would go and see a quit smoking nurse at your GPs and they will advise the best route for you. Even patches you are still getting nicotine into your system so we probably aren't the best to advise you!

Congratulations on your pregnancy Flowers

At your booking in scan they will offer you advice and support groups. I was a smoker too but by the time I got my BFP I couldn't stand so much as the smell of smoke on someone elses clothes so that made quitting cold turkey easy!

I've smoked since I was 15 - at university I was a heavy smoker of 20+ a day and later in my 20s and early 30s I smoked about 5-10 a day depending on partying and stress levels.

When I found out this summer that I was pregnant the craving just stopped and it wasn't a conscious effort on my part. A few times I was tempted and lit up I didn't enjoy and couldn't quite finish the cigarette packet. It helped that I didn't feel like having much coffee or booze either- both of course go so well with ciggies. It also helped that I kept myself quite busy in evenings with exam, music, house work & decoration. No going out & drinking= no smoking= guilt free & healthy me Smile

It seems from what you describe that your body is also reacting in the right way hence why you couldn't/didn't smoke as much as you normally do. Try to build on that feeling rather than normalizing the smoking or even increasing it. Alan Carr clinic used to be in Wimbledon, you might want to look that up, they do day sessions on weekdays and weekends.

Best of luck for the scan and congratulations!

I've smoked 15 a day from the age of 14 (30 now) and the minute I saw that positive test I stopped. I'm not saying it was easy, I craved cigarettes for about 6 months but the idea of life inside me was enough to not cave in.

My sister and sister-in-law smoked the whole way through their pregnancies and their children now have asthma and are constantly ill. Maybe a coincidence but I wouldn't risk it

My husband used a vap pipe for around 5 months and has now quit that.

Good luck to both of you and congratulations on the pregnancy SmileFlowers
