36 weeks and no sleep.... Ever?!?!

Hi ladies,

Haven't posted on here too much yet, but hopefully you can help me out with this one. Any tips would be appreciated!

I wake up to go to the loo at least 4/5 times per night.... or at least I did. Now after the second trip without fail I'm wide awake, no matter what ridiculous hour it is.

The last few nights it's been around 3:30 and I'm awake for the day. Is anyone else experiencing this and have you got any ideas how to cure me?!

I'm worried that I'll be wiped out for my little man getting here. Xx

I was similar from about 5/6 months with constant toilet trips during the day & night. It's exhausting & I also sometimes found it hard to get back to sleep. Keep your room dark, try not to use your phone etc (if you have to use night mode) to keep yourself sleepy. Rest up a llot & take naps if possible during the day if you're on mat leave already.

Congrats & good luck

I've been experiencing this too. I normally just lay in bed and try to rest even if I don't sleep. I try to nap in the daytime if I can as well but not that easy for me with a 3 year old.

Yes I'm in the same boat!
It's so hard to get back to sleep especially if bump is kicking!
I recommend meditation apps like Calm and Headspace. Avoid screens in any other form! No MN, no tv, no candy crush etc
Good luck x

Exactly the same here. Been like it since 28 weeks, 35 weeks now. It's hideous. I have zero energy and, like you, am worried that I'll already be zombified by the time the baby arrives!

Also 36 weeks here. Make sure you use the toilet as many times as you can in the hour before bed. Rock back and forth on the toilet to squeeze the urine through your bladder. Stand up, walk round then get back on the loo. I'm doing this and am waking up at 3-4am and then around 6am.

Have you started your maternity leave? I found I was doing this a lot whilst still working! But now I'm on maternity leave am sleeping so well as also able to have extra naps/rest during the day.

I've also been listening to hypnobirthing relaxation cds every evening, often falling asleep to them and this has massively helped.

I barely slept in the third trimester - I actually sleep better with a newborn than I did pregnant. I don't know if I have any advice other than what's already been said, but I just wanted to say it will pass and you'll be out the other end soon!

Start to wind down as early as possible and make yourself go back to bed even if you feel awake. And like others have said no stimulus while you're there!

Thank you for your replies!! It's nice to hear that I'm not on my own with this one. 😊

Started my maternity leave on Monday officially so maybe I'll start to chill out a little now and nap through the day if this does carry on. I'll also leave the tablet out of our room, I'm a devil for turning on iplayer after an hour or so of tossing and turning! Ha xx

Yup, me too. It's brutal. Can't get back to sleep, too uncomfortable, DH awake and chatting etc etc.

I either get up and have a sandwich or if it's past 5am make coffee.

I'm 34 weeks and haven't had a good night's sleep for a while. Back was so painful last night I couldn't get comfy and as soon as I did I had to get up to go to the loo!

Feel your pain ladies.

I'm 36 weeks pregnant too and I can't sleep either, it's not just me being restless, but I also feel pain around my legs. At the end it gets too much and I need to sit up 😅, being pregnant is hard but we're almost there x

Try to nap during the day if you can

I often wake then (not pregnant) and have no choice but to live with it. I listen to audiobooks - gentle ones not thrillers - but it is surprising how often you are convinced you didn't sleep but when you listen to the audiobook the next night or later in the day you have no clue what is going on so you possibly were'nt' wide awake all that time.

My baby came at this point in my pregnancy and I honestly sleep better with a newborn as I'm not in pain anymore from PGP!

Audio books also help me now after each night feed so that's a useful habit. Baby has to be kept upright half an hour after each feed so I listen to a story or come on MN during the feed then into the story and phone away for that 30 mins so by the time baby is OK to go down again alseep I'm also ready to drift off.
