Pregnancy

UTI in third trimester

So feeling a little stupid for not recognising the symptoms as I've had plenty of UTIs before but just put the symptoms I've had recently down to general pregnancy aches and pains/flu like symptoms that have been going around at work.

For the past week, I've had stomach cramps, constantly needed a wee, stabbing pains in the bladder, fevers (full on shivering to sweating buckets), back pain, vomiting and general fatigue. I've managed to work 2 days this week but had 2 days off sick to try to get some energy back.

At my 35 week midwife app yesterday, she tested my urine and said I've got a severe UTI so I'm picking up antibiotics from the dr today and she has sent off my sample to the hospital to see if I need to be hospitalised. Something about ketones being high. She also advised to make sure our bag is packed.

Does anyone have any experience of UTIs in the third trimester? What is the likelihood of it causing preterm labour??

I have heard that UTI and dental infections can cause early labour. However if you're 38 weeks you're term so try not to worry too much! High ketones can be down to lots of things in pregnancy but can also indicate your bodies response to an infection so keep an eye on yourself :) check your pulse and temperature and if you start feeling worse or those things go through the roof, go back or ring 111. Hope you're okay xx
