35 weeks, early labour sign?

I'm currently 35 weeks with my first, this morning I passed a large amount of clear mucousy discharge and what followed can only be described as strong period pain in irregular waves, and not always with tightenings like during previous braxton hicks. My friends who have recently had babies tell me not to worry but I can't help but feel something isn't right, it's been going on for about 4 hours now, not sure if this is just wishful thinking though!

I would be calling my midwife or local labour ward for advice. I suspect they will want to see you.

I've left a message with my midwife but she hasn't got back to me yet, the pain is not as strong now but is still there and very uncomfortable. I'm so nervous about overreacting!

Don't be nervous about over reacting, call the maternity ward at your local hospital and speak to triage. The same thing happened to me and it turned out I had just lost some of my plug (which can happen and it grows back as mine has).

However that may not be the case for you and they really need to check if you're dilating etc. Don't wait for the midwife to get back to you, especially as your baby would be considered pre-term you need to get checked asap Smile

Agree you should get checked. I had a discharge and felt something wasn't right at 34 weeks 5 days. Went into hospital and they gave me steroids just in case (I also started having contractions). Baby was born at 35 weeks -all ok.

It could be nothing but I would get checked out to be sure.

My first was a 35 +0 spontaneous labour that began in a similar fashion. All absolutely fine with baby she was just an impatient little article Smile.
I was told though that you can loose your mucus plug and still last another 6 weeks before birth!

Midwife finally got back to me and she wants me in the daycase unit at 5pm just to check I'm not in labour, feeling silly since I've had no more discharge and apart from the period pain feel fine Confused but they say even if it's calmed down they still want to see me. Fingers crossed all is ok and she stays in the oven a few more weeks at least!
