Sterilised and now pregnant

Hi all, I'm looking for a little reassurance.... I was sterilised in January this year yet I'm now 6 weeks pregnant. My partner and I had such a terrible time after our daughter was born that we decided enough was enough - she's 20 months now and my son is 6. Aside from the shock of finding out I was pregnant, I think I was more shocked at how happy I am! I have been for an internal scan which has confirmed its not ectopic. I was honestly on cloud 9 until a 'friend' started asking about the risks. She seemed adamant there would be scarring to the egg or damage in some respect from making its way passed the clips. Now all I can think about are the 'what ifs' and I'm really anxious. I have another scan in 2 weeks to check everything is ok but it feels like a lifetime away. I can't seem to find information about failed sterilisation by clipping the tubes and what to expect from the pregnancy. please help x

The medics have scanned you and are happy
Your friend is talking nonsense.
Congratulations!

Surely in your first scan they'd have told you of any risks? Can you make a doctors appointment before then go discuss it? I don't think your friend has been helpful at all and has been really unfair to you. Incidentally I have a family member ( in their 30's now) who is the result of a failed sterilisation and she is fine!

Sorry thought if something else, lots of women have scarring internally from endometriosis, fibroids and coils, their children are all ok.

If the egg was "scarred", it wouldn't have been able to get fertilised. Your friend is chatting shit.

I'd take all your medical advice from the medical professional and not see your 'friend' again for a while!

Congratulations.

I'm no expert, but I would have thought that if the egg was somehow damaged by passing through the clips, then it wouldn't have been able to be fertilized.

And the medical professionals who did the first scan would have also mentioned this if it was a real thing that anyone needed to worry about.

I agree with pp. The clips were clearly not installed properly, there was a gap.an your little miracle egg made it through. It is a single cell. It wouldn't have stood up to any damage. 75% of healthy eggs become fertilised and then do not implant. Yours did, and is viable. Congratulations!

Thank you all so much. I've been putting myself through hell but once you take the emotion out of it the science does seem sound. I'll defo be putting a whole lot of distance between myself and this friend. X

Your 'friend' sounds horrible. Is she medically trained? No? Then why does she think she knows more than the doctors responsible for your care? Distancing yoursel from her sounds wise.

Why is your friend even voicing this to you? If I had a genuine worry like this, which I think is bull btw, I wouldn't voice it I would just hope and support.

She sounds like she likes drama.

If the egg was damaged it wouldn't have fertilised or implanted.
