Recurrent uti in pregnancy

Hi guys, I just need some advice. I'm sixteen weeks pregnant and I have had uti's permanently since my 7 week appointment. I've had numerous antibiotics but nothing has shifted it and I just feel lousy all the time. I work full time and I'm just getting to the point where I'm dreading going to work because I feel ill and I'm just so drained . Prior to my pregnancy I was taking anti anxiety medication and now they've stopped I can feel myself starting to feel low again and I think it is to do with everything that's been going on in my pregnancy. Would I be within reason to request a period of time off work ? I just feel like I'm at breaking point :(

You have my sympathies!

I had 3 UTIs in my second pregnancy and they were so painful I genuinely thought I was in premature labour. I've never felt so ill.

Plus they apparently actually can kick off contractions: I was told to lie flat for 24 hours with my last one.

So you really do need to take care of yourself. Perhaps a nice GP would sign you off for a week to give your body a chance to take it easy? And if you're feeling permanently crappy that's no good for your employer anyway.

Good luck.

Congratulations on your pregnancy.
I'm currently 38 weeks with ds2 and have had lots of uti's in this pregnancy too.
They mainly have cleared up after 6/7 months and I feel much better.

Keep going to the doctor, they will never mind putting your mind at rest.

I also bought a kit from Amazon that allowed me to test my urine at home. This meant if I suspected one I could test then go to the docs or it would put my mind at rest.

Make sure you are drinking plenty of water and rest up. I agree with a pp who suggested taking a few days from work to properly hydrate and recover.

@JulietteIsabelle Hi! Since the baby in this post (my first daughter), I have had another daughter and I'm currently pregnant again so this feels like ages ago now 😂funnily enough in the second pregnancy and this one I've had no UTI's but it really was awful during my first. I ended up on permanent low dose antibiotics biotics from about 20 weeks and that eventually seemed to keep the UTI's at bay. There were no issues or anything because of them though. I hope this helps 🙂
