Pregnancy

Unbelievably breathless

I'm 9 weeks and so breathless, I can't understand it. Just walking upstairs has me puffing and panting. Then my lungs ache. I vaguely remember this with my last pregnancy, but can't remember when it stopped. Has anyone any experience of what is causing it, or when it might stop?

Its probably nothing to worry about but you really should see a doctor ASAP. Could you have a chest infection? If not it would be best to get checked out sooner rather than later.

Thanks, Roses. I don't think it's a chest infection as I have no other symptoms. I'm pretty sure it's something to do with the pregnancy. It's very annoying though.

Anaemia? I was severely anaemic and iron tablets helped the breathlessness. I'm pretty sure I was further on than nine weeks though.

I was going to say anaemia too. I got breathless when standing when i was pregnant, turned out i had low ferritin levels (iron stores), but i only found this out much later in pregnancy.

Definitely pop and get it checked to make sure it's not to do with clotting. It's more than likely anemia so before the docs try and up your iron and orange juice intake to absorb the iron. Feel better soon and congratulations!!

Oh yes, Onion, it could be that. I ended up on iron last pregnancy, I'd forgotten that. Apparently my ferritin levels were low. I've got my booking appointment tomorrow anyway, so I'll mention it to the midwife. Thanks.

Me too OP! I wasn't massively fit before being pregnant but anything above a walk get's me breathing really heavily. I just thought it was because extra blood was going to the baby?

Had my blood test results that were taken at 6 weeks and they said my iron levels were excellent so don't think it's anaemia.

Let me know what the midwife said as I didn't think it was anything to worry about.....
