Water Wipes

Hi,

I've been advised by a midwife you can use Water Wipes instead of cotton wool and water for newborns now. Does anyone know if this is just the brand of wipes called Water Wipes or if the wipes that say are suitable for newborn and say are as mild as cotton wool and water are also ok?

We used cotton wool and water with dd but think we might go straight to wipes this time because we hated using cotton wool! Water wipes look like a good solution though

We planned to use waterwipes for the first few weeks then swap to cheaper ones but are still using them 7 months on! They are more expensive (although we buy them in bulk from Amazon) but they are much wetter than other wipes so I find you use far fewer of them.

We just used normal baby wipes for our daughter and it was fine.

I'm a bit Shock at the price of these.
Also, it's best not to stockpile them as they can go mouldy.

Try reusable cheeky wipes. Google them. Best clean up ever and no horrible chemicals. I use normal wipes out and about but found the water wipes both expensive and wuick to dry out in the packet.

My dd is 20 months and I still use these religiously. Never had nappy rash but I must admit I could prob afford a holiday to the Maldives by now if I'd have used something else!

I used water wipes for ages- they were fab, a bit more expensive but worth it, much easier than cotton wool & water.

Also, DD has sensitive skin and reacted badly to buggies & pampers sensitive wipes.

We used water wipes initially but moved to Aldi unfragranced wipes with no issues. Cotton wool just spread fluff everywhere...

I use homemade cheeky wipes, I.e. a flannel.

I find wet wipes in general just push the poo around. Takes me longer to clear up if I do use them.

I use cloth nappies, so it's nbd to chuck the flannels in the wash too.

My ds is 19 months and I still use water wipes, he does have very sensitive skin and have tried other brands but his skin just doesn't agree with them. I bulk by on Amazon to help keep the cost down.

My youngest has such sensitive skin on his arse that even water wipes give him a rash. He's nearly 1 and we still use cotton wool and water. Its very effective especially if you wipe the worst of the poo off first with the clean part of the nappy. It's actually no hassle at all: use those big pleats of cotton wool and wet them using a re-filled fruit shoot bottle. When we're out I have water wipes and cotton wool, and use the latter whenever possible.

I think if baby is so sensitive you need to use Water Wipes you may as well use water + cotton wool (or re-useable wipes).

Why on earth would you shell out for water wipes which are 99.9% water when you could use 100% water and cotton wool for a fraction of the price? Sorry, but these people make a fortune off first time parent angst!

Laziness ACopy. Used cotton wool and water for DC1. Water wipes for DC2. Slightly less faff. Still buying them - he's 18 months old Confused. So I think also habit Grin

I used Huggies Pure from birth and haven't had any problems. I used cotton wool to clean creases etc for the first few weeks but wipes to clean bum. Was I not supposed to?

Can I ask how you store cheeky wipes at home? How do you carry them when out and about/then store when used? Do you tumble or line dry them? (Only have heated airer - no tumble dryer). Many thanks!

I found the water wipes much easier to use than cotton wool and water - and much much easier out of the house.

8 packets saw us through the first month and maybe a week after, so it's hardly a massive expense compared to wipes.
