Pregnancy

BV and 7 weeks pregnant

I got swab results back from locum GP yesterday who said there's a good chance I have BV. (Test wasn't 100%). I was sort of expecting it as I have alot of discharge. The GP didn't want to prescribe anything in the first trimester and said I should talk to my consultant at my appointment on Thursday. I am 7 + 5 weeks.

I am really worried.
I am already on cyclogest (400mg x 2) and aspirin due to my DDs stillbirth last year.

Thursday seems very far away. Im already nervous enough as I have no pregancy symptoms compared to my pregnancy with DD.
Should I go to Boots and get Balance Activ if they have it?
I really don't know what to do.
Any advice or positive stories would be appreciated.

Metronidazole, the antibiotic usually used to treat BV, has been studied extensively in pregnancy now and is considered to be safe in the first trimester and throughout. If it is BV (and I'm not sure why your results would be inconclusive, but your consultant will be able to see them if it's a swab they've sent off to a micro lab) then you can safely treat it. GPs are often a bit reluctant to prescribe things like antibiotics in pregnancy as they may not do it often or may go entirely on the product literature which can often be misleading. It's important to treat this sort of infection in pregnancy so do mention it at clinic, or speak to another GP to clarify if you don't want to wait till Thursday. Balance activ won't do much for full blown BV. If your symptoms recur do get re-swabbed and re-treated if necessary, but remember there will be an increase in normal discharge anyway so don't worry if you're told that you don't need more antibiotics.

It says on the box that you can use balance active when PREGNANT.

Thanks Miniswin! Hopefully the time lag between now and Thursday won't have any implications. Unfortunately I'm in a rural area and another GP isn't an option.
Thanks Vixxfacee, I'm heading to town today and will pick up a box. It can't do any harm.
Fx it will be ok.

I know this is a really old post but I just wanted to know if all worked out well. I'm 10+3 weeks and i've just been diagnosed with BV which now has me super worried.
