Antenatal classes: NCT v Daisy v ...?

Has anyone tried different types of birthing classes? Please could you share your thoughts and whether you would recommend one type over another?

I've heard that NCT classes are good for making friends, which would be a bonus but not essential, as I already have friends with babies, and I'm planning to do pregnancy yoga so I'm hoping to make friends through that.

I was going to do nct classes but in the end did a birthing programme with the wise hippo which incorporates Hypnobirthing. Was the best thing I did as went from being petrified of labour to loving it! Can't wait to give birth again

Can't wait to give birth again?! Amazing!
I've just looked up pregnancy yoga near me, and came across a local branch of Birthlight that does birth workshops, so I might look at those. It will probably be cheaper than NCT (which I've heard is expensive but I have no idea how much?) and will tie in nicely with the yoga :)

Yup - I would happily give birth any day of the week, I just don't want a football team to look after!!

Seriously it was the best money I spent, I just thought NCT was a lot of money to spend just to make a circle of friends (that you are not guaranteed to get on with!) X

I did Lazy Daisy's. Was great and still friends with the mum's 2 years later.

We did the NHS ones which I found very informative and throrough. Did look in to NCT but we were moving house soon after DC was born so thought any friends I made would be very temporary, and I ummed and aahed too long so when I did go to sign up at 20 weeks pregnant, all the courses were full.

Just reviving this thread to say that I think I'm going to go for a hypnobirthing course at my local birth centre, it's run by doulas and a clinical hypnotherapist and it looks like an excellent alternative to NCT Smile

Belated thanks for your replies!

I did Lazy Daisy too. Found it really helpful to understand the birth process. It's a bit like hypnobirthing and I definitely used the breathing techniques during birth.

I'm now pregnant with #2 and intend to sign up for a refresher cours.
