Sleeping solutions (1 bed flat)

Hi

I am due my first baby at the beginning of November and am looking for some ideas on how best to manage sleep! We are in a decent sized 1 bed flat but hope to move to a house by the end of 2017. Obviously we want to maximise the space in our bedroom and just wonder how others manage?

Do we need a full size cot for example? How long would a crib last for? Have been looking at snuzpods and the Chico next to me etc but I gather these only last for around 6 months so what would the baby need after this? If we can avoid a full size coy for the first year that would be great but we are pretty clueless about all of this!

Also we want to use cocoonababy so whatever sleep solution we use would need to be big enough for this.

Any suggestions welcome!

Thanks everyone

I think you will need a full size cot so I'd just buy that with a sleepyhead for when baby is small. My DD has just gone into the full size cot from a snuzpod at 7 months. It was overdue and she is loving the extra space. I don't see how you'd be able to put it off for a year.

You'll definitely need a cot after around six months. My daughter was scraping her fingernails down the canvas side of her snuzpod by five months. We then crammed a full size cot in with us for a another few weeks before putting her in her own room, which was a blessed relief for everyone and we all slept much better.

We bought a cot for DS' bedroom and a Chicco Next to Me for him sleeping in our room. We ended up buying a Sleepyhead about a week in and he slept in that in the Next to Me until he was 5 months and moved to his cot in his room.
We would have struggled to fit a cot in our bedroom but if you can fit a cot in your bedroom I would just buy that and use with the Sleepyhead to keep baby snug. The Next to Me was great for feeding through the night; I'd wake, put baby on boob, burp him, change him between my legs and then back to sleep. Liked not having to get out of bed!

We are in a 1 bed flat and bought a Kindle Valley 'space saver' cot for our bedroom and used a Moses basket in the living room. The cot is great, slightly narrower and shorter than standard size but DD is now 4 months and there's still plenty of room. We may have to buy a full size one eventually but we'll see how it goes. Good luck :) x

Ikea do a smallish cot that would do most DC for up to 18 months, most cots are continental size which fitted my tall DC until they were nearly 4!
