Morning all. My first post as a new member so please be patient! I have a little one who is 20 months. Last Wednesday when I think my period was due I did a cheapo Asda test and got a positive. Shocked doesn't describe it as it took 5 years and 3 lots of ivf to get our little one. I did a clearblue digital and it said 2-3 weeks. At the weekend this went up to 3+ weeks. Yesterday it went back down to 2-3 weeks. Accompanied by some minor spotting I reported to EPAU and after a long wait, bloods were done and hcg was 63,000. I suffer from recurrent miscarriage and have had extensive testing done so take steroids for this problem. I have no really big symptoms and I'm unsure of my dates. Probably about 5 weeks. So my question is what is going on?! Hcg is high but clearblue digital has dropped.....

Hi there,

I'm no expert but have heard lots of criticism of the dating part of clear blue tests on here. Lots of people say that the dating part can't be relied upon and to ignore it!

Not sure if that helps but I would go on the advice and results from the medical staff. Maybe stop testing and fingers crossed that all is well.

Clear blue tests read higher in the morning and lower in the afternoon, I have literally had both results on the same day with them when I was pregnant with dd ( a healthy 18 month old!) try not to worry it wont do you any good (easier said than done!) Sending lots of sticky baby vibes Flowers

Don't worry too much this happened to me and the next time I did one it had gone back up to 3+. It depends on time of day, how much you have drank all sorts of things. If I was you I would stop testing. I booked an early scan to put my mind at rest instead.

My situation is very similar to yours, think it's the disbelief that it can't possibly be that easy makes you uneasy doesn't It! X

I did the 3+ one at 3pm on Saturday and the 2-3 ones yesterday around 11am and 1pm. Gutted to see that drop and just got a feeling it'll all go wrong. Got to wait for a call from EPAU today for an early scan hopefully. Going on holiday and weekend and would like some resolution before then. Have had 3 early miscarriages so just need to know. Thanks for your replies xx

Scan shows gestational sac and yolk but no baby yet. Roughly 4.5-5 weeks so that makes everything add up. Scan booked again for 2.5 weeks as on holiday. Just waiting to see nurse. So hcg is actually 6300, not 63,000 as Dr told me yesterday. Grrrrr.

Repeat bloods tomorrow.....not sure what to think. It's that clearblue digital that's freaking me out!

Hi, I would say all looks great at the moment. You are 4-5 weeks by lmp. So scan is showing right gestation. (I didn't see a baby on uss at 5+6, only a sac... But I Saw baby on uss at 7+1 with heartbeat). Your bloods are great for 4-5 weeks- see attached photo of normal ranges for hcg levels in early pregnancy... Note there is a huge range of normal for each week! Keep in mind that 2-3 weeks clear blue is from conception, which is 4-5 weeks from lmp... So actually 2-3 weeks is what you would be expecting at the moment. But see attached info from clear blue about their tests. The hcg cut off for 1-2 weeks is 10. For 2-3 weeks is 153 and for 3+ is 2753. These tests really aren't as reliable as clear blue like to make out. Blood results are obviously much much more accurate. So you probably got a clear blue 3+ a bit early because your hormone levels are nice and high. But they do fluctuate in your urine through the day based on hydration, time since last passed urine etc. really really don't worry, all your numbers look great! Xx

I know it's really difficult to relax and just go with it, but this sounds like everything is going right so far.
You really can't know anything further until 7/8 weeks when an ultrasound would show a heart beat.

Best of luck for a sticky one!

Thanks for your support and help ladies. Thanks for attachments too. Repeat bloods tomorrow and results on Thursday. Did another clearblue, like an idiot, and it had gone back to 3+. I do feel quite positive but husband seems a bit negative.

What do husbands know???

If he's anything like mine the whole reproduction system is baffling!!!

I agree - try to relax as everything sounds good.

So gone from 6311 on Monday to 10140 on Wednesday. What even does this mean?! I never had hcg measured with ivf. Nurse seemed happy and said although we look to double, anything over 60% is ok. Still doesn't feel reassuring enough.

Have a look at this it might make you feel a bit better as your levels are showing at least 28 days past conception.
