Bleeding in (very) early pregnancy

Hi All

I found out yesterday morning that I am pregnant following a third round of IVF. I had a fairly strong line on an IC. When I got home from work yesterday I had started spotting, it was pink and watery and only there when I wiped.
Today I did another test which is darker than yesterday, plus a FRER Which shows a test line pretty much the same colour as the control.

However today I have had fresh red blood which def requires a pad. It's worse when I move and contains mucous. I have a blood test booked for this afternoon with a repeat on Monday to check for rising hcg, but just wondered if anyone else had experience of this, and how it turned out for you.

I am 11 days post 3 day transfer today, or 14dpo. Still on progesterone pessaries.

Hi sammy, I've recently had bleeding and they sent me for an early scan.
I would go the doctors with it as it is fresh blood. Brown blood is old blood but when it's new blood it's worth getting checked out.

Hi Sammy, I really feel for you. I had a small bleed at 5 weeks after ICSI and it was terrifying. Firstly I would recommend that you take to your bed ASAP. I really felt that by resting and keeping still I was helping it stay in place, which may have been rubbish but it helped me! I assume that as you are having the bloods you have already contacted EPU/doctor - is it too early for a scan? They told me that blood is not necessarily a bad sign so please don't panic. Good luck, I hope it's all okay.

Please don't panic. His happened to me. My baby was Ivf as well. It was just a blood clot. Just rest as much as you can and try and get a scan ASAP

I had huge early bleeds with both my pregnancies absolutely convinced the worst was happening both times. First one couldn't be explained but baby was fine, second one was because of a blood clot and again baby was fine.

Thank you everyone. It's far too early for a scan, I'm only 11dp3dt. Literally POAS yesterday. The line was very dark though.

The blood is now brown, so I assume it's stopped and is just taking its time coming out. Can't relax now though, am expecting to see red every time I go to the loo.

You can have breakthrough bleeding around the time AF would be due. I had such bad cramps and bleeding at about 4 weeks ... I'm still pregnant now. Stay positive xx

How are you doing this morning Sammy? I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you.

I'm ok. Still getting some bleeding, it's mostly brown now with some bright red occasionally. Blood result came back as 101.8 which the nurse said was good. Obviously I won't know which way it's going until after Monday's re test. POAS and it's still a strong bfp.

I just want to know. Not knowing is killing me

Hi, i had what I thought was a 2-week period of watery blood, then found out I was 5 1/2 weeks pregnant! I had a big bleed with pretty big clots at 7 1/2 weeks (I rushed to A&E and then got another scan) but all was fine on the scan. I bled and spotted almost daily (mostly old brown blood, occasionally a bit of watery red) until about 10-11 weeks just short of my 12 week scan. Apparently it can be hormonal, your body just settling down, implant bleeding... the size of the clots I had during the big bleed was quite scary but the nurses were very reassuring and once it cleared up, I haven't had any bleeds since. They said any bright red bleeding just check in with them. I know of a couple of other people that bled through their early pregnancies and one that bled all the way through. I also found when I overexerted myself (ie gardening, lots of housework) I had a bit more so I tried to take it easy in those early days.

Have you had any cramps or pain op?

I bled at 6 weeks with my dd, went for an early scan, turned out I was only 4 weeks. They couldn't find a cause for the bleeding and she's now a healthy 18 month old.

I will say with miscarriages I've had in the past cramps and awful pain came quickly after the blood,

Good luck, hope everything's OK

I've had some cramps, but nothing horrendous. I certainly wouldn't say 'awful pain'
How much did you bleed though booo? Mines definitely more than spotting.

Luna - I'm currently scared to move as there seems to be more blood every time I do.

Is it watery blood? I had fresh blood for a couple of weeks but it was very thin... probably around 2-5 weeks into my pregnancy. I literally thought it was a 2-week light period and that's why i went to the doctor in the first place as I'm usually as regular as clockwork. If you feel it's getting heavier than maybe check in with your doctor, can't hurt. I know how scary it is, I was on edge so much because I felt like this isn't normal. But it's more common than you realise. Keeping everything crossed for you x

Hi Sammy, I just wanted to share that I had horrendous bleeding complete with large clots with dd2 and she is now 18 months old. Not knowing is the worst but try not to presume it's bad news as that isn't always the case. Keeping fingers crossed for you, hope Monday's bloods come back good Flowers

It was watery but has def got a bit heavier. Because it's an IVF pregnancy I'm already in touch with my clinic. They've done the blood test, but as its too early to scan there's nothing more that they can do. The test will be repeated Monday and if hcg has increased then I'll carry on with medication, and if not then i guess I'll stop everything and let nature take its course. X

Hi, I posted a thread about this just the other day. Mine's an IVF pregnancy too. I've had spotting on and off since just after my BFP and a bleed after my first scan. I'm now 7w 3d and still having some blood most days.

It's terrifying, isn't it? At times I've thought I'd go mad with the not knowing.

You can have quite a bit of bleeding and it doesn't necessarily mean the worst - as people on my thread kindly told me.

Getting repeated blood tests to check your hormone levels are rising might help.

Otherwise, I'm just hoping for you that it stops. I know how awful it is.

loopylou1984 · 16/07/2016 19:46

Disastronaut, how much bleeding have you had? Anything on a pad?

I'm cramping a bit today too, I'm so scared. This is our third attempt and were 2.5 years in to ttc. A miscarriage may well finish me off.

Thank you everyone for your stories. I just wish it was possible to have a scan - then I would know. X

I bled on and off for the first 10 weeks both my successful pregnancies due to a cervical ectropion. I really feel for you, you must be going through hell after such a long journey to get this far. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you

I've heard that bleeding can be quite common with IVF pregnancies. Hope that your clinic can give you some reassurance.
