Lower back ache - cystitis?

I'm currently 14 weeks with #3 and feel I should know what I am doing but don't Wink

I have really bad lower back ache just above my butt, either side of my spine. Aches as much whether I am standing/sitting/lying down (although slightly less if I am lying down twisting my legs!)

I've not suffered any back pain before.

I am weeing more but then I can't tell if it's any more than usual, no real pain but now over analysing it all!

Sound like cystitis in anyone's experience? If it is will pharmacies give you OTC treatments when pregnant or am I looking at a GP trip tomorrow?

TIA!

I had this in very early pregnancy and on and off since (I'm only 10 weeks mind). The GP tested my urine but there's not infection. She put it down to hormones and stretching etc. This is my second baby and I'm finding it tougher physically than the first. A lot more aches and pains.
It's worth getting checked out by the doctor before taking an OTC medications. I hope your back feels better soon!

Thanks! The pharmacist wouldn't give me anything. Saw the out of hours GP who said no UTI but sounded like early SPD which is a bit Shock as had no issues in my past two pregnancies!

Yeah I'm getting SPD symptoms already and it's not something I had much of in my last pregnancy, the most I had was a bit of hip pain. Not much fun!
Did you get a physio referral? If not then ask your midwife for one.

Yes thank you! She told me to ask for one now, even though I didn't feel like I needed it, as it could take several weeks to come through. Joy Smile

I have this exact type of back ache. I'm 17w now but had it since about 14/15 weeks. I asked my midwife about it this morning but she just said it's probably muscles/joints stretching out to accommodate the changes and it'll probably settle down, but if it's still there in a few weeks to request a physio referral.

Mine is mostly painful when I'm in bed - it doesn't bother me too much in the day but wakes me up at night. I've started sleeping with a pregnancy pillow which has really helped. Also going to the chiropractor on Weds as was told that can help 'realign' everything!

Hope you get sorted. It's not nice at all!
