July baby what to wear going home outfit

I have bought some first size, up to one month and 0-3 month clothes as unsure what size baby will be. But what do I put him in in this weather he's due 4th July. Will he still need all in one sleep suit type thing or will it be too warm? First time mum so would appreciate positive comments!

Place marking as I'm due our first on 23rd July. In my hosp bag I've packed 2 different sizes vest and all in ones. I thought if it's warm then no need for vest. I think the normal rule is one more layer than you're wearing - obviously if you're wearing a thin dress and still too warm don't put an extra layer on baby. I'm sure when it's very warm weather then a nappy can also count as a layer.

Ps I've also bought some short romper suits for when we're home if it's hot.

I have bought a joules baby vest and teamed it with frilly socks and a bow.

But iv also packed a strawberry print romper with a little hat,

She will be wrapped up in a blanket if it's now too chilly

There's such a thing as a "going home" outfit??

Probably too old and grumpy to have heard of this - mine (now teens) went home in a clean babygro and cardi. No other fuss.

I had a late June baby. In hospital, he wore a s/s vest, a sleepsuit, a cotton hat and a cardi. I didn't even pack a cardi but apparently he needed one and that's what he wore home.

No hats inside once we were home though.

Baby wears 1 more later than you.
So short sleeved Vest & babygrow. That's all you will need to dress baby in when you leave the hospital in July.
Of course If you need a cardi then throw a blanket over baby once strapped into their car seat or buggy. Or put a cardi on baby too.

Feel baby's back of neck. It should not be hot nor clammy.

There's a lot of talk of over heating or baby being too cold so it can make you paranoid as a first time mum.

A baby doesn't always need one more layer than you.
DS was June and he went home in a long sleeved baby grow and hat, with blanket over him.

DC2 is due end of July and she has the same. Will also take a vest if it's cooler buy if it's like it is today then just the babygrow and blanket.

Take more than one size with you! DS was only 6lb 11 and some newborn and up to one month stuff would have swamped him. He was in first size or small baby for a few weeks!

Yes was more thinking about temperature I do have a few different sizes just in case but didn't know wether the the sleep suit would be too much in the weather we have at the moment but people have said I need hat and cardi and maybe blanket aswell just in case! weegie the midwives do talk about a "going home outfit". It is exactly as it sounds - something for the baby to wear home.

OP, I'm due next week (oh my god!) and I have packed vests and baby gros. I also have a hat as advised!

I had my DS last year during the heatwave.

I was unbelievably hot and assumed baby would be too but the midwives told me off and said baby needed to be kept warm regardless of the weather as they cannot regulate their temp in the first few days so I took him home in a vest, sleepsuit with a blanket over him too.

August baby last year. Went home in short sleeved vest plus lightweight sleep suit. Got through a few due to vomming up my blood and other stuff she swallowed on the way out!

If you go home the same day they will advise vest, babygrow and cardi or blanket as it takes 24 houra for babies to regulate their temperature. At least that's what I was told, I had a June baby.

I had a July baby last year. Was sunny and warm when we left hospital. He went home in a bodysuit, dungarees and thin cotton jumper with hat/socks and one of those cellular blankets wrapped round him.

If in doubt, layer up a bit more than you think and remove the outer one if they get a bit sweaty! Newborns have a high surface area to body mass ratio so lose heat v quickly. Best to be on the cosy side.

June baby last time, it was warm out (I went home in sleeveless dress and flip flops). Dressed baby in short sleeve vest and Sleepsuit to go home (2 days old). No hat, but had thin cotton one on day she was born. You can use a large muslin as a blanket, as you can keep it to one layer if warm / fold it over if needed. Will depend on time of day as well - we went home in evening. They do get v cosy in the car seat so don't overdress them, if you sit next to them you can check back of neck to make sure not too hot. I would recommend blanket rather than cardi for this reason, in car seat you can whip blanket off but you'd have to stop car to remove a cardi!
