Can you go to any hospital in an emergency from homebirth situ?

I have been told the homebirth MW's will take you to there's?

I have also read you can go where you like??!

I am closer to the other ?

(I am on the border between two districts)

other as in th ehospital in emergency of my choice is nearer than the one my community MW's will take me too and I'd rather go there but as I'm booked as homebirth, I obviously can't book a place.

I'm fairly sure they take you to the closest. That's what they do here, and it's why I'm not having a homebirth as I (very snobbishly) would prefer not to have that town on the birth certificate!

An ambulance will take you to 'their' hospital so to speak. If getting in a car, you can obviously drive wherever you like...

If it's an actual emergency, they'll take you to the most appropriate one.

If it's a more slow moving thing, I guess you might get a choice. Probably depends on how busy they are, the reason for transfer etc.

It's not closest or otherwise; it's the one best suited for your needs. If it's an emergency transfer surely you just go along with whatever is best for you and the baby?

If you feel that strongly about it, don't have a home birth.

I am booked in with one (nearest) hospital, but my community midwives are from a slightly further away hospital. I've asked for a homebirth, and they've suggested I change which hospital I'm registered at, as apparently in an emergency, the ambulance will take me to hospital a as I'm registered there, but the midwives would have to leave me at the door because it's not 'their' hospital.

Thanks all. Yea good point Nan0second, Ive been told that if understaffed, I have to go into there's too but of course I could just get driven to the better closer one, cheers.

I can't believe Ive done it again, every time I move I find im on the boundary an end up with the shit hospital. The lengths I'm going to for this homebirth, yes offically nuts!!!!! All great if it goes well if it doesn't don't fancy the pants hospital.

So many ruddy decsions ahhhhhhhhh.

Hi Potterignalong - thanks.. emergency transfer the best for bubs is the one I want to go to but they will take me to the crumby one!! so frustrating.

Phalarope - say what? blimey that sounds like the similar weird set up to me. I don't know about you but it's been a fight to get the homebirth :/

also the only way of guaranting best chance of homebirth for is paying private. Had no idea til I looked into it how much £5'000! Then in an emergency I could say take me to the nearest hospital. I can't stand the NHS, I've had a nightmare with them but what can you do

Mixed bag of MW's also, some lovely as you'd expect but some A1 sociopaths. It's not what you need in life is it. a couple I have had lokk like the plugs been pulled out

Important factiod though: I have read that you can go whereever in an emergency though, I will keep reading up ! and can even change once in labour
