20 wk scan - short limbs

Had my 20 week scan today and the baby has short limbs. Each of the 2 main bones in the leg and arm are classed as being short. Think 3rd centile for one and 1st centile for the other.

Has anyone else had this in a scan? If you don't mind me asking what was the outcome? Does your child have a medical issue?

Am really worried.

All other measurements classed as normal.

I'm sure someone more knowledgable will be along, but I just wanted to say that sometimes the centiles on the scan can be really inaccurate. They were really out for both of my children.

Was the sonographer concerned?

A bit. Have another appt in 3 weeks for another scan (they also want to look at the heart again as as they've seen 4 chambers the baby just wouldn't get into the correct position to check heart connections).

I read that short limbs COULD be a sign of downs. I have a high risk at the moment and that's what I found out. I'm not saying your baby has that or anything else. How tall are you and your babies dad? If you are short then your baby may be short too. If your concerned about the results ask your midwife. Hopefully she can put your mind at rest.

Not me but a friend had this and was monitored throughout her pregnancy as they suspected dwarfism. The baby was born healthy, with no conditions and is now a perfectly fine 1yo.

By the way I was not told that by a midwife or sonographer. I found that info on the internet. So I don't know 100%

Thanks all for taking the time to respond - I really appreciate it.

User - I had the harmony test which gave odds of 1/10,000 for downs. So, hopefully those odds are accurate.

Thomas - that's really encouraging to hear. It did go through my head about suspected dwarfism. The limbs are borderline normal (hate the term normal) based on the centiles.

Me and my dh are both short.
