Bump showing in first pregnancy

Hi ladies,

Pregnant with baby number 1 and I'm intrigued as to when you started to 'show' a visible bump? I'm a size 16-18 so 'curvy' and I'm hoping I don't just look fat for ages!

I'm 6 weeks tomorrow with our first and interested to see what different people saw happen to their bodies and when. I think I can feel a difference already, but it will be water retention I'm sure!

I started to look a bit more pregnant around 19 weeks, and my bump really became obvious as a baby not fat at about 27 weeks. I'm about the same size as you, I found wearing clothes that clung to my bump made me look much less fat.

With my first I was about 20 weeks before I had to stop wearing my normal jeans etc. With my second baby I only made it to 9 weeks before having to crack out the elasticated waistbands!

I am 5ft5 and a size 14 hour-glass shape. (or I was then!)

My first pregnancy I remember starting to not be able to do things up about 10 weeks and looked pregnant rather than fat about 16 weeks. Felt the baby move about 20 weeks.

My second pg I went into maternity clothes and looked properly pregnant much earlier, about 11 weeks. Felt the baby move about 16 weeks.

Both times I had a massive high round bump with no weight gain other than the baby (due in part to terrible heart burn and being unable to eat much, eating healthily and lack of wine). Best diet I ever went on!!

This is the thing, looking fat rather than pregnant for a while! And usually when you don't want to be telling people you're pregnant yet! I am off on holiday in 3 weeks and am dreading the looks I'll get round the pool!
(p.s. I'm sure I won't get any looks but in my head I will do!)

I think everybody's bumps come in at different times, bur if your paranoid which I was in earlier pregnancy (34weeks now) try buying tops that say things like hands of the bump, also baby on board badge to pin on your top made me feel abit easier. TFL do them for free, that's if you live jn London if not ebay
I'm sure will have them

Not until around 7 months in all 3 of my pregnancies and even then, only really if I wore snug fitting clothes.

I think I just looked fat (or rather fatter) for ages tbh. I'm 34 weeks now and I definitely look pregnant, but not as pregnant as I am. My bump actually is measuring slightly big, but people keep expressing surprise when I tell them how far along I am.

I thought I looked a bit pregnant at least at 20 weeks, but then I saw my mother (who I hadn't seen since 14 weeks) and she said "I don't think you look pregnant at all." I cried Blush

I am a size 12-14, in my first pregnancy i just looked a bit fat at about 12 weeks but looked pregnant (with small bump) around 15/16weeks. Got absolutely massive after that!

I'm size 12-14, 5ft7 and 13 weeks pregnant with my first. I think I'm just starting to show... it's been mostly bloating for the last few weeks but now feels a bit more rounded. I haven't been able to do up my jeans since about 7 weeks though... bloody bloating!

27 weeks and people at work still don't realise I'm pregnant unless I tell them....to me I think I look huge but clearly not to any one else!! First baby, 5 foot 6, size 10.

I am 13 weeks pregnant with our first and I can't do my normal jeans up, and haven't been about to for a couple of weeks. Worried this is quite early?! I'm a size 12 and about 5ft8ish. Interested in reading replies to this thread :) xx

I'm 9 weeks and been in maternity jeans for a couple of weeks.

Am showing quite a lot (either that or I have terrible baby belly bloat) and my boobs are huge.

Am usually a size 8-10. My hips have popped and thighs spread.

This is probably as all I want to do is eat carbs - predominantly sandwiches and crisps and we are renovating the house so no kitchen to eat well...

I was showing before my first scan, a few people at work asked me. actually lost a bit of weight because of morning sickness so I looked stick thin with a little bump.

You might not want to read this bit, my bump turned into twins.

Wicker don't worry - you sound identical to me! I think everyone's body reacts differently.

I'm 17 weeks and very obviously pregnant. I have a clearly round tummy that wasn't there before and started showing around 14 weeks.

I was a size 8 bottom and 6 top and 5'9 before pregnancy. I started showing a baby bump at 25 weeks however I could hide it when necessary with baggy clothes up until about 30 weeks. Now at 37 weeks and definitely can't hide it but still find it quite shocking when people ask when I'm due! I don't feel like it's that obvious still!

I was told all sorts, like cause of my height I 'hid' it better, but then also got told because I was thin I should be able to tell sooner, but truth is people could be exact same height and bmi and their bodies will show pregnancy differently! Turns out my baby is measuring 4 weeks smaller than average (normal for them as it's consistent) I don't think it's ever down to one single factor like your bmi. Things like fluid, baby measurements, baby position all play a part in the bump and shape. I was constantly told how small I was compared to other women and it starts to make you worry when it's perfectly normal to be different.

I also remember feeling so bloated in those first few months and convincing myself people could tell lol but that went over night and one morning I just felt a strange bump on one side of my stomach lol! Hope this post makes sense, I rambled a bit. Congratulations on your pregnancy news and hope it all goes smoothly for you!

I am usually a size 10. I was in maternity trousers early as I had bloating. I didn't get a prominent bump until around 22 weeks perhaps? Tbh I am 30 weeks now and could still probably hide it with the right clothing. I usually wear tight stuff to show off bump / avoid looking like I just have a bit of extra weight!

I'll attach pics of my bump at 24 and 29 weeks. But I have been measuring small so probably not best comparison.

This was me! (Apart from the no kitchen bit.) Then around 12 weeks my bump more or less vanished as the bloating went down and I just looked a bit fat around the stomach until about 16 weeks (though it wasn't wobbly to the touch). Now at 18 weeks I really think I look pregnant so long as I'm not wearing a coat.

With #1 I started in mat jeans at 17w ish and was showing fairly obviously by 20w. I'm now bigger with #2 at 15w than I was at 20 last time but also weigh about 10lb less which might make it slightly more prominent.

I'm normally a size 10. Currently 18 weeks with my first and sporting a small pregnant looking bump, which has only just arrived I guess. At times I do just look fat, other times definitely pregnant.
You're pre-pregnancy body will largely determine when you show I guess. If you're tall you have more abdomen room for baby to get comfy in so may not show so early. Same if you were quite fit, with strong abs.
I've worried I'm too small, then that I'm too big. At some point though I will have a proper pregnant bump and I can't waitSmile

Also had no kitchen until about 14 weeks due to house renovation, lived off sandwiches and pasta! Definitely put on weight due to that rather than baby, think now I'm back in my normal routine it's evened out

I'm a size 8-10 usually and With my first I didn't get even a hint of a bump until around 24 weeks, and even then, it wasn't an obvious baby bump - could easily have been mistaken for a big lunch! I really "showed" at about 26-28 weeks.
I'm 17 weeks this DC2 at the moment and am getting a bit of roundness, but not a clear bump yet
