Pregnancy

6 weeks in & scared of something going wrong!

Hi MNers.
Last summer by DP and I decided that we would start TTC in the new year (as in Jan 2016). I dragged my feet a little as I was scared of getting my coil removed but I got it removed beginning of March and we started trying straight away.
Two weeks ago I took a HPT which came back positive, I took another 4 just to make sure and sure enough all came back positive. We've worked out that I am just over 6 weeks pregnant, due around 8th January.
Only thing is I'm constantly terrified that something is going to go wrong and something bad is going to happen, I can't let myself enjoy it! I've read so many horror stories about people that had their 12 weeks scan then miscarried 2 weeks after I feel like I'm going to be going through this pregnancy thinking something is going to happen. To add to that, my two best friends haven't have a great time over the last two years with births, my first friend lost her daughter when she was 6 weeks old to SMA syndrome and my other best friend went into labour at 28 weeks - luckily her DD was fine but I feel that because of two trauma's these things come in threes and I'm convinced I'm going to be the third!!
Thanks
xx

Things don't come in threes, you know that's a superstitious concept not based in fact. Your two friends were both very unlucky, but their situations will have o effect on yours.

I think most women are nervous about their pregnancy until the 12 week scan. Once a heart beat is seen then it is very unlikely you'll have a miscarriage.

It's completly normal to feel like that. I think most of us analyse every twinge, every bit of spotting. It's not a bad thing either. Things can go wrong. They usually don't but if your mind is prepared, that's a good thing. I'm not saying go be a doomsayer though!
I'm about same as you. DD1 is 2.5 and I didn't relax until I heard her heartbeat on the 12 week scan and they said there's a baby in there!

Thank you for your reassurance, I didn't think I'd be the only woman thinking this but I think even then I feel like I'm being completely unreasonable and irrational!

Tinklypoo it would be good for us to maybe keep each other updated with our progress, will this be your first? My partner has two but this will be my first so I'm new to it all, his reassurance is comparing against hist ex wife which I've told is NOT what I want to hear, maybe I was being unreasonable but I told him that I don't care what happened the first two times with him and don't care that he's done this all before, I haven't and I want to know everything from the doctors and will act the midwife questions that my DP can answer but I'm not bothered - haha!! Definitely my hormones raging already! :D He's in for a long 7 1/2 months!

I'm in the same boat. Due 5th Jan. I had a mmc in August. Baby had stopped developing at 6 weeks but I mc at 11.5 weeks. It was hideous but we got through it.

I guess I'm trying to say that worrying won't change things but I can't take that advice myself as I'm actually pretty scared.

I had a bleed last week but they scanned me Wednesday and saw the heartbeat! Temporary reassurance but it hasn't lasted long and now I'm anxious again!
