When did you start preparing your nursery?

I just wondered at how many weeks most people start preparing and getting the baby's room ready?

Hey bumblebee86 - most things sorted 4 wks before incase bubbers arrived early. Especially stuff like car seat, if you go in hosp you have to have car seat to bring home. It took me a few weeks to aquire the basics, i.e. some out of stock, some stuff needing to be returned etc. Longer than I thought to do, I haven't gone crazy with stuff either.
Would be great to go shopping when its here but bit late then for the vitals....umm nappies etc.

After 20 week scan

We started getting things ready after the 20 week scan as well. But then we sort of... Lost momentum. In the end, DH assembled the crib while I was in labour (in between bringing me water and ice packs)!

Still not done. They're 4 and 2. There's no need to have a special nursery. They'll be in with you for at least 6 months anyway.

We had the baby's room ready before DS1 was born.

And then he slept in our bedroom until he was 7 or 8 months old.

Not until they were a few months old and ready to move into it. Used it as a spare room for visiting family until then. If you don't need the room in the meantime by all means do it up but we needed the space!

When DS was 10 mo.

I have decided we simply must have massive redecorating before the baby is born, so I've got all sorts of work happening in the house. This is some kind of demented, obsessive nesting. I don't recommend it. The walls of the nursery are painted, but only because that was the order the decorating plan.

All work is due to be done by 36 weeks, when I will move the nursery furniture in the nursery. Nursery furniture involves a new double bed, an old dresser, and sleepyhead deluxe. I may or may not get the cot in time. This is my third baby, and for us having a double bed in the nursery for me and the baby is the best newborn option. I have no illusions that 1) the baby will sleep happily in a cot, or 2) my marriage works well when the baby is in the master bedroom and both of us are woken up all night long. I am giving up the sleeping fight before she even arrives.

The 10 year old is looking forward to inheriting the double bed in due time.

30 weeks

Baby is in with you for 6months but I wanted somewhere to put nappies (we use cloth), bed sheets, clothes etc and there wasn't room in our room for anything more than a crib and the room we intended to use for the baby had a sofa and tv in it so we needed to buy furniture etc. Decided to paint it then too as when we removed the furniture the paint was grubby.


Having said that, at 38 weeks the room was decorated and the furniture in place but as it had just been Christmas I'd just shoved all the baby stuff in there and not organized it!

My waters went at 38 weeks and I spent early labour organising it!

We already had a spare room so could get the room organised without issue.

My son is 2 and I'm about to have my 2nd - still don't have a nursery!

My son has a toddler bed in the spare soon. Baby will come in with us until at least 6 months.

Eventually they will need to share the room and we might think about redecorating it into somewhat of a child room!

I think people can get themselves quite stressed over having a Pinterest worthy nursery when their baby doesn't care either way!

They are in your room for six months so there is no rush to have it ready for s particular day.
