Pregnancy

Really upset

This isn't really pregnancy related, well it is kind of because my increasing weight is causing me a lot of anxiety added to that I'm feeling very hormonal and tearful. But I just had to get this off my chest. When I came in to work this morning I left my bag and some paperwork on the reception desk while I went to the loo. I've just been back down to reception and realised I left my paperwork there amongst which was my Slimming World weekly weigh in book with all my weights listed. I'm seriously paranoid about my weight and wouldn't want anyone to know. I picked up the book and one of the guys who works here shouted 'oh yeah you left your slimming book there'. He would only know it was mine if he looked inside and saw my name, so he now knows how much I weigh, which has devastated me. I'm so embarrassed.

Just needed to share this with someone so I don't sit at my desk getting upset. :(

Could he not have known from your other paperwork? Or maybe just noticed someone left it, then clocked you picking it up?

Nothing to be embarrassed about, bloody well done to you for being proactive about it.

Yes, maybe he saw you put it down, or saw you leaving and realised. I wouldn't assume he actually went through your things. Does he work on the reception desk?

Possibly, but to be honest I think he would enjoy looking at it. He can be a bit of a bitch/gossip at times. Out of the 3 men based around reception he was the worst to look at it, but then the other two men wouldn't of given it a seconds glance.

Thank you. I am trying to be proactive and stay positive, but I'm gaining weight quite quickly, which is really disheartening.

I'm only 11 weeks. I was doing SW before and decided to continue. Have put on 6lbs in the last 4 weeks despite following the plan.

You know that your blood volume will be increasing, and your placenta is growing, amniotic fluid etc etc. Plus things like water retention will have an effect. Have you seen a midwife yet? They'll be able to talk to you about what is typical and whether or not there's a problem.

Yes I've had my midwife appointment and hadn't really gained at that point. I do plan to make a doctors appointment though as I am definitely carrying a lot of water.

Thank you for talking me through it NoWords it's really helped me not get OTT upset about the incident xx

That's ok! Early pregnancy is the worst bit (apart from the end!) I think. I'm 32 weeks pregnant at the moment, so I can really sympathise.

Hi. You have to find a way to calm your weight aniexty. Of course you don't want to get fat but you do need to put on weight and fat throughout pregnancy. Some weeks you'll put on nothing, other weeks it'll spike by 5lbs. You have to relax about it and stop dieting. Focus on the content of your food more than the quantity.

My personal way of coping is to have confidence I'll make weight loss a priority after birth. Know that with hard work you can lose any extra you put on after birth.

38 weeks pregnant: +40lbs

Don't give this fella another thought. He will never havecthe privilege of carrying a life inside.

On a slimming world (i have to be careful to say slimming in front of my toddler so he doesn't hear swimming and get excited ablut lirate ships!) note here are my thoughts for what they are worth; when I was pregnant with DS I put on about 5 stone. I didn't realise until after he was born and I was looking through pics.

This time (I am now 29 weeks) I promised myself I could not go through that weight loss journey again. It took me two years to get 1lb below my pre pregnancy weight and I POAS the next day. When I had my booking in appointment with the mw at 8 weeks I was straight up about my anxiety around weight gain. I recognised i needed some weight gain fora healthy pg ( if nothing else the baby and its house weigh enough plus extra blood and fluid etc) but I could not cope with 5 stone. She agreed to put SW on my ante natel care plan and my SW group have been super supportive. My leader agreed that as I was clearly going to be gaining and I have a toddler in tow, it wouldn't be possible to come every week. So she marks me down as a shift worker and I go every few weeks. There are extra guides for pregnancy in SW and although I can't even claim to follow it that strictly I have only gained around 2stone so far. I expect maybe 1 more, but will be aiming for less. Having said that, I will do what is good for the baby and me and it may just be that I do put on weight.

My point is, be proud that you are takibg control of your anxiety, be proud you are doing something super special in making a person and be proud you are doing them both at the same time.

As for early weight gain, remmver your body is preparing itself to accommodate another guest. It is protectig you and the baby (babies) and water retention if rife. Blood volume will increase etc. But uen things will settle for a while before they kick off again. please make sure you look after yourself and talk to your mw and docs. You are not an island.

Here is some reading:

By the time you reach your due date, just over a third of your extra weight will come from your baby, the placenta and amniotic fluid. Every mum and baby is different, but here are some averages:
At birth, a baby weighs about 3.3kg (7.3lb).
The placenta, which keeps your baby nourished, weighs 0.7kg (1.5lb).
The amniotic fluid, which supports and cushions your baby, weighs 0.8kg (1.8lb).

The other two thirds of extra weight is due to the changes that happen to your body while you're pregnant. On average:
The muscle layer of your womb (uterus) grows dramatically, and weighs an extra 0.9kg (2lb).
Your blood volume increases, and weighs an extra 1.2kg (2.6lb).
You have extra fluid in your body, weighing about 1.2kg (2.6lb).
Your breasts weigh an extra 0.4kg (0.9lb).
You store fat, about 4kg (8.8lb), to give you energy for breastfeeding.
