Nighttime & bedding for summer newborn

Hi All,
I'm due with my first baby in about three weeks time Shock and the only thing that I'm consistently worrying about is how to keep her cool during the night.
We live in Berlin (usually a couple of degrees higher than the UK in summer) in an attic apartment and even today the temperature in the bedroom is 26 degrees, and bound to get hotter.
I've bought a thin 'summer' swaddling blanket as I think swaddling looks like it'll be worth a try, but I'm so worried about how to dress her & what bedding to use for the night. I know that nighttime overheating is a contributing factor for SIDS and it's freaking me out.

Any advice?

If it's really hot you can just out them to sleep in a vest, or a vest with a thin muslin type sheet. Don't worry too much babies are born in hot countries all the time and they survive Smile

I had a May baby closely followed by a hot summer! I just dressed him in a nappy on really hot nights then popped a sheet or thin cotton blanket over him when I went to bed (an night time can still be chilly).

Oh and feel the back of your baby's neck to check how hot they are - sure midwives told me that was the best place to check

Midwives told me that the overheating advice relates more to over bundled winter babies than summer babies. You can swaddle with something like this if you're worried https://www.woombie.com/ConvertibleSummerr_Woombie.html but baby may sleep best in just a nappy or under a single mesh blanket.

Mine just slept in a nappy on the warmest nights.
