Pregnancy

20 week scan nerves

Anyone else a nervous wreck?
I've had a textbook pregnancy up until now but my 20 week scan is on Monday and now the anxiety has picked up big time! I'm a mess.

I had to end a previous pregnancy (my 1st) at 12 weeks due to an anomaly that was incompatible with life. Was told it is in no way likely to happen again and was just a 1 in 7000 bad luck thing. Still, even though this 12 week scan was perfect I can't help feeling it's all going to get taken away again.

Anyone else get this feeling? Any success stories welcome also to show it is not all doom as the internet is so full of the saddest of stories.

Cake Flowers good luck and I hope it goes well. Lovely feeling once this scan is over and you can relax a little.

I was exactly the same and was convinced they would find something wrong. People told me to remember there was statistically more chance of everything being ok than something being wrong by 20 weeks. I now have a healthy baby despite various issues (bleeding, hematoma, pre-e) during pregnancy.

I haven't been in your position (previous pregnancy) but I've also got my 20 week scan next week (Weds) and I have to admit my entire pregnancy has been fraught with nerves - I've been in hospital for a few bleeds, but nothing serious so far.

I understand your fear completely - do you have your test results from the 12 week scan to hand? Presumably you had the combined NT testing, so try to have a look over those results to put your mind at rest, or reassure that one time does not mean this time - as everyone keeps saying, absolutely no pregnancy is the same!

The feeling you are referring to I totally understand - sometimes I'm incredibly calm and anxiety-free, and other times I'm climbing up the walls.

Flowers for you, look after yourself x

Oh love - of course you will be anxious, everyone is to an extent, but considering your previous pregnancy I'd be very surprised if you weren't. But the chances of there being anything wrong after they've said it isn't something at all likely to reoccur (and you had a completely fine 12 week scan) are just as much (or little) as anyone else's. I had a MMC at 11 weeks and then at my 20 week scan during my next pregnancy DD's head was measuring small so had to be rescanned - I was a mess until the scan (turns out she was probably just in a funny position).

And you know what I'm going to say - STEP AWAY FROM THE INTERNET!

Ah thanks for all the fast responses you guys. I really needed the mn love and you brought it.

missybct yes I have my NT results, 1:11,378 for Downs and even better odds for Edward's and Patau's so yes you're right that is something. Good luck with your scan too!

I never realised when my friends were pregnant just how worrying the whole experience is! I've felt so confident from 12 to 19 weeks and now the threat of the scan is making me crazy!

I so know you are right cuppatea. I need to not google!

I still can't believe my luck and assume something will go wrong at some point. It's so hard to shake that feeling isn't it?

So hard sophied1983. Weirdly as well every time one of my friends has a good 20 week scan it makes me even more nervous as if statistically it has to be me!

I am trying very hard to focus on the movements I feel, the fact I have had no pain or bleeding, the good NT results and the fact I had a consultant (so I would assume he was pretty thorough at 12 weeks).

But sometimes that damn doubt just wont leave me alone! It's that "am I really allowed to be this happy" feeling.

It natural to feel a little nervous I think the majority of women do before each scan.
Just focus on the good your last scan and you've had a good un complicated pregnancy so far. Sounds like every reason for your 20 week scan to be good.

Hope it goes well for you Flowers
